Whoops. So... we’d planned to post this next week, but it looks like the cat's out of the bag now. Over the past several months, we’ve been trying out different ways to expand the Explorer program. Some of you signed up at Google I/O, some told us what you would do #ifihadglass , some were referred by a friend, some joined through their school or university. Our Explorers are moms, bakers, surgeons, rockers, and each new Explorer has brought a new perspective that is making Glass better. But every day we get requests from those of you who haven’t found a way into the program yet, and we want your feedback too. So in typical Explorer Program fashion, we’re trying something new.
Next Tuesday, April 15th at 6am PDT, we’re opening up some spots in the Glass Explorer Program. Any adult in the US* can become an Explorer by visiting our site and purchasing Glass for $1500 + tax – and it now comes with your favorite shade or frame, thanks to feedback from our current Explorers. The number of spots available is limited, so mark your calendar if you want to get in. You can find us on Tuesday at: http://google.com/glass/start/how-to-get-one

Google is about to make its biggest push yet to get Glass in the hands of as many people as possible. The Verge has obtained documents indicating that the company will open up its "Explorer Program" and make Glass available to anyone who wants to purchase a pair, possibly as soon as next week. It’ll be a limited-time offer, only available for about a day, and only US residents will be eligible to purchase the $1,500 device. Google will also include a free sunglass shade or one of its newly-introduced prescription glasses frames along with any purchase. An internal Google slide shows that the promotion may be announced on April 15th, though all the details of this program have yet to be finalized.

If you've been anxiously awaiting your opportunity to get your very own Google Glass, and somehow you've missed every other invite or code giveaway, your time is coming up in just a few days. The Glass team has confirmed documents leaked to The Verge that indicate Google will be giving a one-day pass to all residents of the United States to join the Explorer Program and purchase their very own head-mounted unit. The event will occur on April 15th at 6am PDT. The price remains faithfully locked in at $1500, but buyers will also have an option to choose between free frames (suitable for prescription lenses) or tinted shades.
I got an invite code a few months ago but I didn't have the money to get in on it. Guess I'll just wait til they hit a pawn shop near me like I do with every other new piece of technology
I would so totally do this if compatibility is in Canada. I still feel that my glasses are the most important part of me, and there would be no way in the world I could live without. Having a connected experience with them would introduce a whole new level of life.
i have google glass and its ok
i dont use it very often tbh

Can I have it?
Waiting for the much cheaper retail version instead :~)
I'm still annoyed that it's US exclusive, just like most cool stuff Google does.

Most of the cool stuff is USA only in general.
If I'd get one I'd develop on it. Be fun to make games that are annoying to play because you have to twist your eye
Google lets cut to the chase. Give it to me for free. We both get what we want that way.

Like freedom for example
Call me old fashioned, but I'm one of those people who doesn't really like the idea of having people walking around with Google Glass. Makes me feel watched. Pranksters could probably walk up to you and start filming your face. Like with smartphones, but worse.
It's probably not gonna be a problem but eehh.

I didn't do much research before signing up for the explorer program.
When I got in, I was so disappointed by that price.
Is there a reason it's so expensive? It seems fairly simple.

To keep tech illiterate people away.

If so that's a shitty way of doing it.

Still is in development, it isn't in mass production yet. Think of the price as making a custom order for an item, you will pay much more than a floor piece that is of equal quality that has benefited from mass production.
Everyone is flipping their shit in the private Explorer forum considering it lets newcomers choose between the fugly-ass shades that the package has always come with that nobody ever uses or a pair of the new prescription frames that cost everyone else an additional $250.
That, and Google hasn't updated the firmware in months, which they used to do regularly. Kind of a bad time to hop on board right now, it's stagnant as fuck.
I don't need google glass. I already got a screen recording software.

Make it ad supported, you look at an item and it determines what it is and places a contextual advert over the top of said item.

I suppose there's a chance that they'll get back to updating it if this does roll out, after all they'll have a whole new batch of testers and possibly slightly enhanced models to work with.
Still can't use the damn things though, Google being sightist, not everybody has sight in their right eye dammit.
