Ret. police captain: To be arrested in solidarity ‘was the proudest moment of my life’ [release]Retired Philadelphia police captain Ray Lewis, who was arrested last week alongside others in the Occupy movement, calls the ordeal “the proudest moment of my life.” “I saw all of you sleeping out here,” Lewis recalled to a videographer in New York City’s Zuccotti Park. “The cause, you were for justice. It’s not like you guys were putting up with this so you could get jobs on Wall Street. You were doing this for justice. All over the world, in fact. And that inspired me. I had to come down here an join you.” “That day, I had no intention of being arrested. None whatsoever. But when I saw a lot of you sitting down and being drug off, I’m saying, they’re losing their freedom for justice, for other people. And that inspired me again to be arrested.” Lewis added: “I’m going to tell you a very important thing here. I’ve had a lot of proud moments in my life, a lot of proud moments in my career. But when I had those handcuffs on and was being marched over there with the other protesters in solidarity, that was the proudest moment of my life.” Watch these videos, uploaded to YouTube over the weekend.[/release] Source: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/11/20/ret-police-captain-to-be-arrested-in-solidarity-was-the-proudest-moment-of-my-life/
If only there were more people like this man still within the force...
It's positive examples like this that will drive this movement forward! Peaceful, powerful, and unforgettable moments like this are what will sway the people of America. Not riots, not blockades, not police brutality: this.
Hell yeah, Ray, keep being awesome.
Ray is the best officer ever seen on duty. He's more than excellent.
Beautiful, really. It's people like him that go a long way to prove that OWS isn't just a pile of hippies and students looking for handouts. He's a retired cop, and a person that truly seems to believe in the word 'justice' even after his career, and isn't afraid to seek it. I'm trying to think of something to balance this comment because it glows too brightly, but I draw a blank. He's a fantastic example.
Ray is the best officer ever seen on duty. He's more than excellent.
He isnt on duty, he is retired.
To those dumbasses that still thing everyone there are violent rioters and drug-smoking, criminal, hippies can go stick a barky tree branch up their ass. This is a wise old man and if he thinks there is injustice in the American government today, it must be real. The fact that he even went through all the trouble raises loud alarms
You'd think he'd be proudest most of all of his manstache but yeah I guess justice is cool too.
He himself, in being inspired, is now incredibly inspiring.
Obviously this is a Communist lie. He's really an uncouth, violent, drugged up, hippie, savage who hates America.
He will be in history books.
Obviously this is a Communist lie. He's really an uncouth, violent, drugged up, hippie, savage who hates America.
Exactly. I will take no more of this communist propaganda.
You'd think he'd be proudest most of all of his manstache but yeah I guess justice is cool too.
Hell, I'm proud of his mustache. And I don't even know him!
Exactly. I will take no more of this communist propaganda.
just like all those "veterans" are damn hippies dressing up in old uniforms and shouting at the police. Damn liberal deceptions
just like all those "veterans" are damn hippies dressing up in old uniforms and shouting at the police. Damn liberal deceptions
Its all fake. Those hippies are actually all policemen in disguise, shouting at other policemen in order to cause panic and destabilize our perfect nation.
