The economy, foreign affairs and presidency buildings were all targeted, 11 days before the referendum. Catalan leaders are defying a court order to halt the vote, condemned by the Madrid government as illegal. One official called for peaceful resistance to protect the buildings. "The time has come - let's resist peacefully; let's come out and defend our institutions," the president of the Catalan National Assembly, Jordi Sánchez, tweeted. The night before, Spanish police discovered a mass of documents directly related to the banned vote.
https://www.thelocal.es/20170920/spain-takes-control-of-catalonias-finances-to-block-referendum
Spain has taken control of Catalonia's finances to prevent funds being used for an independence referendum it deems illegal, a move that limits the region's autonomy and puts in doubt the payment of thousands of public workers' salaries. "It is a total irresponsibility. They are leading us to an administrative collapse," Catalonia's vice president Oriol Junqueras said Monday, adding the measure was "unprecedented". Spain's conservative government announced Friday it would take over the payment of essential services and public workers' salaries in Catalonia to prevent it from spending money on the referendum slated for October 1st.
It's like they are begging for another civil war to spark up here.
they don't mind taking the tanks out on the streets though
They're 30 minutes away from Barcelona
if you're having to raid offices and try to block their referendum it really tells you a lot about what Madrid really thinks of catalonia they deserve independence
Spain would trash their international reputation if they started a civil war over a peaceful vote.
They did it once, what makes you think they will not doing it again? I'm not able to find a decent source but I'm reading that this sudden action wasn't actually triggered by the current situation of the vote, but due an anti corruption case that was dictated back in February and it is just a coincidence that it was due to happen while this is going on. Lets see how it evolves on the following hours.
