• Pope Francis says church cannot focus only on abortion and gay marriage
Pope Francis said in an interview published Thursday that the Catholic Church cannot focus only on abortion, contraception and gay marriage, and that the moral structure of the church will “fall like a house of cards” if it does not find better balance. The pope acknowledged in the interview that he has been criticized for not speaking more about those three issues, but he said that the church must “talk about them in a context.” While the teaching of the church on those subjects was clear, he said, “It is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time.” The pope’s remarks draw a contrast with both the doctrinal focus of his predecessors, John Paul II and Benedict XVI, and with church leaders in the United States and around the world who have urged him to speak more publicly about homosexuality, abortion and birth control. “We have to find a new balance,” he said in the interview, published in Jesuit journals across the world. “Otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel.” He added: “The church’s pastoral ministry cannot be obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently.”
http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/09/19/20580271-pope-francis-says-church-cannot-focus-only-on-abortion-and-gay-marriage?lite [editline]4th November 2013[/editline] I agree with him here, I am all for these issues but there's other ones that we need to talk about, like poverty and underpaid sweatshop workers and such
I love the new pope. He's so radically different that even the cardinals disagree with him. Like when he said that even gays and atheists would get into heaven and they immediately shit themselves and tried to spin what he said.
I think this guy is smart enough to realise just how backwards the Church's views are on these issues compared to much of the world and avoiding them is just a survival tactic.
Pardon me for being cynical, But to me it just looks like someone in goldtown realized that if they kept their regressive shit, fueled by dark age superstition. They would gradually loose their power/money in the increasingly modernized world. So they put this guy on the podium to convince the masses to let them keep their empire.
this dudes the best fucking pope and so insanely different that I hope for good change. I'm sick of the shitty medieval homophobic creepy pedo and insane ideological bullshit that comes from the Vatican.

The rest of the Vatican is constantly trying to spin what he says to make it sound less tolerant.

They had no choice.. radically modernize, or die. This guy is pretty much a Godsend for the Catholic church.

That incident was due to the media completely misreporting what he was saying and the Cardinals had to correct those reports. The Pope has not changed or gone against any Catholic doctrines.
this is some insane conspiracy nut level spewing right here if the pope is the word of god then god must have changed his mind
Or this one cleaned the shit from his ears and was like "Oh, thats what you said, sorry bout that, Boss"
I may not be catholic or in any sort of religion that gives two shits about the pope's "authority", but I'm glad that this pope isn't using his religious power to be the embodiment of emperor palpatine, he's a real human bean.

Considering that a lot of folks among the papacy, like Innocent VIII, Alexander VI, Sixtus VI, and quite a few Piuses were asshats of the last degree in terms of humanity, by comparison a nice old guy like Pope Francis makes me think that maybe, just maybe, people can understand the real meaning behind religion.

The Church could find a definitive cure to cancer and you'd still call it a publicity stunt to appear less bad.
Christianity is predicted to reach 3.6 Billion members by 2050. I would assume that many (if not most) developed countries are moving away from religions.
Jesuits are the fucking best
He's either avoiding the issue due to his views on the matter not aligning with the churches internal views, meaning he wants to play it down while he deals with the church itself first, which would be good. Oooorr he's avoiding it because it's ruining the churches reputation and he wants to sidestep the issue as if there are more pressing matters, so that he can avoid flak.
My Jesuit school just cut abortion out of their employee health insurance plans. Way to listen to the pope you douches.
Except they haven't realized it. The rest of the Vatican is constantly trying to spin what he says to make it sound less tolerant.
oh yeah that's just what they want you to think :tinfoil:

They went back on God's word
A Pope who isn't an idiot. This is good.
Which is weird as fuck because the pope is basically the "Daily Word of God" and the Vatican are basically talking against the deity they believe so much in
Funny how the leaders of one of the largest religious organizations in the world are constantly challenging the ideas or views of a man with an apparent "link" to the big guy upstairs. It just goes to show how backwards organized religion can be.

He seems better but not good.

To think that Catholicism is so deeply rooted in their traditions and beliefs that its own Bishops are constantly challenging the apparent "word of God" because Pope Francis is being progressive in moving the church into a modern era. The question that must be asked is how much of these teachings and beliefs are simply just tradition and show? Any rational person should see faith crumbling as these church leaders consistently bicker with themselves.

There's plenty of fucked up stuff in the bible that nobody follows anymore but I guess they've hopped on the gay beating train so hard they can't find a way off.

The problem with faith is that they don't need scientific proof or logical deduction to come to such blind conclusions. I'm hoping that with these internal conflicts with the Pope and Bishops will lend some hand in showing the average follower that your religious faith is literally dictated by a group of generally spiteful old men.
