• Gap year to go work in Australia

So I've just finished A levels and I'm definitely; A in art B in technology possibly B in ICT D: I know a guy who just booked flights with 5 friends and they worked in sydney for 6 months. After that they travelled to cambodia, vietnam, Korea etc. The photos looked awesome and he reassured me to go for it. I could go it alone or possibly with my friend, either through a gap year management group project thing like BUNAC or 'The Real gap' etc. OR just book flights and go through with it. BUNACs package covers 5 days accommodation, helping you find jobs, group flights with others, orientation, support and 3 days in hong kong before you get to sydney. That, plus the flight home will cost me £1750 roughly. I make around £220 weekly here running a marina and I have lifeguard qualifications so these are all things that could help me in a seaside city. I also worked on various fast speedboats (RIBs). I need help/ideas/experiences from you guys to help me decide. Also where's best to go? Sydney, Perth or Melbourne?
Perth's pretty empty, Sydney or Melbourne are pretty much your best bet. I'll admit I don't know shit about Sydney, coming from Melbourne the only thing you hear is that Sydney kids are all flaming homosexuals but as of yet I have no way to verify this information.
Check out Brisbane, great weather.

Melbourne. Sydney is filled with $10 per hour internet.
Melbourne. Sydney is filled with $10 per hour internet.
I can get $2 per hour in Sydney for a gaming/internet cafe. That's if i'm not bothered to get around the log in system.
Melbourne is the shiz.
Melbourne is the best city in Australia. I'm sorry all of you lot who live in Sydney, but you're in New South Whales (that's bad). And Sydney is Sydney, a serious downside. Melbourne, however, is plain awesome and the first thing that comes to my mind is it being one of the world centres for street art. You could spend hours just wandering around Melbourne looking at the shit people have put on the walls.
Melbourne is fucking easy to get around. They set it up in a grid as they were first settling it. Sydney grew. Also there's some pretty awesome stuff. Also yeah the graffiti is fucking awesome.
Alice Springs actually is suffering from a lack of workers.
Come to sydney, with 4 million people you know it's better than Melbourne. because 4 million people wouldn't disagree with it
Considered doing the defence force gap year thing?
Come to sydney, with 4 million people you know it's better than Melbourne. because 4 million people wouldn't disagree with it
Haha, no. Sorry. The only thing Sydney is good for is aquariums.
Considered doing the defence force gap year thing?

Alice Springs actually is suffering from a lack of workers.
What are they? and yeh I just remembered I'm watching artists from melbourne on deviantart and there is some awesome street art.
Don't forget the heroin. Melbourne has some fine-ass heroin.
Sure does.
Sydney's public train system is pretty hopeless. Quite a few FPers root for Melbourne (I think) I've heard decent things about the street art in Melbourne, though I wouldn't know shit about it. Never heard of anything good or bad about Perth, seems like its pretty empty and boring.
What about the whole flights thing?
Check out Brisbane, great weather.
It's cold and wet in Brisbane so ye are wrong. :supaburn:
I live in NSW, and I'd say Melbourne. It's like Sydney but with out all the shit parts.
What about the whole flights thing?
As in whether to go it alone or with a friend? I'd go with a friend, it would feel less intimidating. But if you're the adventurous type, I know a couple of people who came here by themselves and worked everything up from scratch. Sounded daunting at first, but for them, the intimidation kinda wears off once you befriend a few people in a similar situation.
Go to florida!
Go to Melbourne, FL. (not) Actually come to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia - voted the world's most livable city. We've got a great nightlife.
Perth is boring. Melbourne and Sydney are overcrowded and overpopulated. Brisbane's nice, but stay away from the Gold Coast, it's a shit hole with an overrated beach Adelaide's nice, go there.
Friend just booked flights and went for it, totally slummed it at times, got work in a restaurant for a while, did veracious amounts of drugs, and had a great time

You see, the only thing worse than Adelaide is Tasmania.
I'd go using BUNAC or whatever with a friend considering that they'll help arrange everything.
ITT: People want OP to come to their location.
Sydney is probably the best looking city in the world, in my opinion. Come here.
