I know this comes to no one's surprise, but as usual, Russia: There's always more, and it's always worse.

Answering Chizhevsky’s accusations, Milonov said LGBT organizations themselves were to blame for the attack and alleged that the incident might have been an act of provocation to compromise anti-LGBT activists. According to Milonov, some anti-gay activists are provoked by what he called the LGBT activists’ “continuously eccentric escapades, rudeness and acts of provocation.” “Unfortunately, not everybody manages to stay calm, some behave inappropriately,” Milonov told the Fontanka.ru website on Nov. 6. “But to say that some of our activists went with pneumatic guns to a homosexual den…it’s a great pity that the guy got it in the eye, but I think it was a planned act of provocation.” Although a number of LGBT activists were hit by stones and beaten during the rallies, Milonov said that the level of the violence was exaggerated.
“I can’t remember such aggression against these people,” he said. “But when some idiot hops on the Field of Mars (the site of recent LGBT rights rallies) with a placard reading ‘Sodom to every home,’ he is asking to be punched. So it’s absolutely wrong to think that any of our activists could have done this to Chizhevsky. The maximum that they did was delivering somebody a kick at a gay parade.” Milonov apparently approved of acts of violence against LGBT rights activists — whom he alleged to be financed by “Georgian entrepreneurs and from Israel” — at public rallies. “When a foreign agent openly offends my family, as a Russian man I deliver him a kick,” he said. Later in the interview, Milonov dismissed LGBT rights as the “rights of sick people and perverts,” describing LGBT rights rallies as “marches against normal society.”
If he is in Russia's interests he should be trying to spread acceptance and not hate and violence, as xenophobia is causing unrest in Russia. I wonder if he knows how much Russia needs immigrants from the south Caucasus.

1. Bigots aren't usually the brightest bulbs.
2. Guess who you can thank for inciting these atrocities? Good ol' America.
The legislation regarding homosexuality passed in Russia is likely a red herring intended to divert the attention of the Russian populace from the real issues that the State Duma is not prepared to fix, such as problems in the Russian economy and Russia's crime rate. This legislation incites violence against homosexuals and makes homosexuality a central issue whilst simultaneously pushing the real issues that the Russian people face under the rug. I would call it ingenious political maneuvering by Russian politicians if it weren't so disgusting.

You're quite off.
The situation in Russia is very much clear to the populace. The people are all too aware of the corruption, the crime, the drugs, everything. The state doesn't even need to use homosexuality as a scapegoat to divert peoples attention, because the populace was always volatile against homosexuality since forever, really. It simply never took root. Russia never had waves of human right amendments and cultural revolutions like for example the U.S had (black rights movement, women's rights, etc) and so the country always viewed homosexuality not as a sin, but simply put - disgusting.
When it comes to family/personal matters of the individual, Russians tend to be very conservative. No drugs, no homosexuality/bisexuality/etc, no deviation from the norm. Some connotate homosexuality with the West since it is widely known that the West is pro-gay and therefore any advancements made by the homosexual community in Russia towards acceptance are seen as Western propaganda attempting to hinder Russian cultural integrity. Basically people think that allowing gays to be accepted will make Russia more liberal and Westernized.

I wasn't saying that homosexuality was not already viewed in that light. I was saying that it is very feasible that the purpose behind legislation was to put a larger focus on homosexuality to distract Russians from other, more pressing issues.
Fuck that guy.
