so I saw a video about sensory deprivation experiments, and I want to conduct my own tests. (video is here http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/alone/)
Here's the plan:
Rent an office space or warehouse space, set up a small room that has a tv, a bed, and two mounted infra-red cameras.
Post on craigslist job boards about this, as well as put up flyers downtown.
If they last 48 hours in the room they get $300, if they don't I'll just give them $20.
Simple sensory deprivation is too tame though, so I'll spice things up with the tv. At 3 hours the TV will turn on and show the movie Jacob's Ladder, it's a crazy mindtrip that will probably lead them to think that they are dead and in some sort of hell.
At 9 hours the TV will turn on again, and this time it will show a clip from Rubber Johnny (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3far9oHZOsI).
At 30 hours I'll show them Begotten (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPWGXYBNYqA&feature=related)... I don't think they'll be able to last through that whole thing.
I'll also be playing white noise the whole time.
To keep things scientific I'll be administering before and after mental tests. Also I'll be posting videos on youtube of the whole event.
Opinions?
What are you trying to prove?
Umm... what?
Why?
And who's going to do that for $300?!
Stop trying to make crazy super-soldiers and get back to office work ya punk kid.
I voluntarily volunteer for this.
(My avatar raises his hand PROUDLY)
Use the Jupiter scene from 2001 Space Odyssey.
Be prepared when your subjects come flying out as horrific man-monkeys à la Altered States
What are you trying to prove?
I learned from the scientific video that sensory deprivation is used to brainwash POWs. Horror movies freak out people that are well grounded in reality. If we strip out all sensory stimulation from a subject for long enough so that they begin to question everything around them, then proceed to show them a horror film that will undoubtedly destabilize their mind even further... I hypothesize that the subject will enter a ultra-heightened state of paranoia, maybe even resulting in temporary psychosis.
TLDR: I think I can make someone go crazy for a bit by showing them horror movies in the dark.

I would do it. I'm sure I could find plenty of people to do this.
Don't forget to make them sign a waiver
I'd totally do this
Don't forget to make them sign a waiver
Oh definitely, and a model release for for the videos.
I'll probably end up streaming a live feed if enough people are interested.
I'd totally do this
do you live in wisconsin?
Sign me up.

You should totally fucking do this.
Your fucked up.
Don't forget to keep us updated :v:
You'll likely need special Government permission, this kind of thing is potentially dangerous...and the Government might have to assess it even if the victi-subjects sign a disclaimer.
I feel better being alone sometimes, but i would volunteer as long as there is light i guess
A live feed is a must. Make that one of your top priorities, and you could even make money if you did everything right.
Simple question: what is "white noise?" I'm too lazy to wikipedia it.

You have no idea the forces you are fucking around with boy.
This will go wrong and someone will snap and fuck you up.
What is wrong with you.

Might want to inform a mental hospital just in case. And the police.
This isn't an experiment..
E TO THE M TO THE O! WHAT DO YA GET? EMO!

You see, allow me to bold the extreme issues here for you. There we go.
Now, let's just imagine you are sealed in a room with a tv for 48 hours, total silence and total darkness, a fucking nightmare came true for some people.
Then you are going to show them the most fucked up trippy shit that mankind has ever concieved.
And you fully expect them to snap like fucking loons.
Now, I hope for your own sake, you prepare for them to try and maim you.
EDIT: White noise is effectively static.
Your brain just tunes it out after a while, and then tunes back in and focuses as hard as it can, so hard you will start to hear shit in it, like voices.
These experiments have been done before, and the thought alone makes me want to kill someone.
OP is messing with shit he can't grasp, he's got a fucking passing interest in this, that if he follows up will get him in so much shit it's unbelievable.
Interesting... good luck? and umm... hope you don't loose too much money.
I would volunteer but i'm in the UK, and horror films freak me out and i have nightmares for weeks... (so even if you were in the UK and close i probably wouldn't)
Although to be fair, some people can sleep for a very long time, like 18 hours a day, hmm sounds like an easy $300 :buddy:
I feel better being alone sometimes, but i would volunteer as long as there is light i guess
If there's light your not sensory deprived.
What he needs is a blacked out room, sound proofing so it's literally black and dead in that room.
Leave someone in that for long enough 1 of 2 things will happen.
1. They'll be fine and dandy and say where's the money now bitch
or more likely
2. They'll be thrown into quite a nice state of insanity.
Do this on yourself first.
It's funny when it's happening to others isn't it? No, this experiment isn't "fun" or "interesting" or anything of the sort, what you're doing is purposely screwing with peoples heads, NOT conducting an experiment. Theres a reason these things are conducted by DOCTORS of psychology, not some random guy off the street. Get a grip, this is just a horrible thing to do.
Simple question: what is "white noise?" I'm too lazy to wikipedia it.
Kind of like the static you'd get on a radio
But only that
And loud
I like being in pitch black, silent rooms. It soothes me.
Kind of like the static you'd get on a radio

If its stupidly loud and constant, like say 80 decibels... then that's horrible >.>
It could be dangerous.
Especially when nothing was mentioned about consumption and sleep, sleep more than food and water.
And not knowing the mental state/strength of the people in question.
