As you may have heard, a few weeks ago the Gamespy servers had to shut down and it was no longer possible to play multiplayer on MEDIEVAL II However we are happy to announce that players who own this Total War classic on Steam can now play multiplayer again. Players who purchased the game elsewhere can use their existing Gamespy key to redeem the new Steam version. If you own the physical CD version of the game, the key should be included in the package, most likely printed on the back of the manual. If you purchased a digital version from a distributer other than Steam, your key should have been sent to you on purchase of the game. If you cannot locate the key, please contact the distributer you purchased the game from.

• All multiplayer functionality updated to use Steamworks, as the Gamespy service has now been discontinued. • French, German, Italian and Spanish language support added to Steam. • Launcher removed. Selecting the title from the Steam library will now launch directly into the game. • Medieval II: Total War - Kingdoms content is now displayed as DLC for the Medieval II main game, rather than as a separate listing in the Steam game library. You may notice that Kingdoms is no longer listed in your library, but you will automatically be granted access to the DLC package. The four Kingdoms campaigns are now accessible as launch options when right-clicking Medieval II in the Steam library.
Fuck yes
Waiting for a fixed Empire II with full fledged features.... In the meanwhile, Cossacks II fills the gap.
Please do Dark Souls 1 now.
Medieval 2 Total War is probably one of the greatest strategy games of all time.
They also did this for Rome I.
Now I can once again get trashed by a vastly superior player using the Mongols!
Is now a good time to buy the game ? [editline]22nd July 2014[/editline]
They also did this for Rome I.
Does that mean I can redeem my boxed copy ( got it like 3 years ago) on Steam now?

The people who make RTS at SEGA have been doing a great job with doing this. First Dawn of War, now Total War. I'm glad to see they aren't the ones to abandon their old games like EA
The people who make RTS at SEGA have been doing a great job with doing this. First Dawn of War, now Total War. I'm glad to see they aren't the ones to abandon their old games like EA
You saying Dawn of Wars 2 now supports Steamworks?
So CA you fuck me over with all of this buged release and DLC crap and then you do something like this holy fuck what am I supposed to think about you now?
Bit more clarification as I'm confused now. Does Dawn of War 2 use Steamworks now in the sense that the MP is being hosted on Steam servers instead of Games for Windows Live?
I was wondering why I had 500 ping in War Thunder. Apparently I was installing a 10.3 Gigabyte patch.
Well it's about bloody time.
Aww man, just tried to find my disc but all I could see was the soundtrack. Edit: Found it. Looks like you get all the DLC too (including Kingdoms):
also, the funny thing is this comes soon after EA's announcement to allow Sims 2 disk owners to register their keys on Origin. Except you have to do it through Origin's Help service, and within a specific period of time. This is the exact opposite of that.
That's fantastic. Now if only sega hadn't shipped me a copy without a cd key when I bought it on release
You saying Dawn of Wars 2 now supports Steamworks?
It is implemented in Retribution. In the original and chaos rising you need to activate the beta.
So CA you fuck me over with all of this buged release and DLC crap and then you do something like this holy fuck what am I supposed to think about you now?
Rome 2 just had patch 14 and it's stable, AI isn't nearly as retarded as it used to be and mods are filling everything else (Divide et Impera [IMG]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/IMG] ). Whatever grudge I used to hold is gone.
So CA you fuck me over with all of this buged release and DLC crap and then you do something like this holy fuck what am I supposed to think about you now?
They also released Patch 14 for Rome II, and it is godly. The AI is not only no longer pants-on-head levels of retarded, but it is actually difficult to beat and intelligent. Seriously, give it a whirl if you haven't already. You will be shocked. [editline]ohfuck[/editline] Wow, bad ninja, considering our posts are a half hour apart. But the point still stands.
It's kind of retarded though that they even released with bugs, that's just not cool. It happened with Battlefield and now with Steam Early Access, companies seem to be putting out unfinished products which is pissing me off.
If you know anything about CA, is that even before Empire they released their games with major bugs.
I remember there was a bug where they forgot to add reloading animations for Lithuanian arquebusiers, so they ended up having these semi-automatic rifles.
I remember there was a bug where they forgot to add reloading animations for Lithuanian arquebusiers, so they ended up having these semi-automatic rifles.
Wasn't there something weird with the Two-Handers during Medieval II's release as well? I don't approve of CA releasing their games like that, but it should come as no surprise to anyone imo. [editline]22nd July 2014[/editline] Yeah there was a weird Two-Handed weapon bug.
Units with the "2H Axe" animation, which includes bill and pollaxe users, cannot attack cavalry in a standing melee. Furthermore their attack animation is very slow, which forces them to parry incessantly over the course of a battle. Spearwall polearm, Eastern halberd and 2H sword units do not have this problem.
. That's quite a bug to overlook in bug testing... there were like 17 units effected by it.

So, right about now. I blame corporate meddling in this case. I can't speak for their other shoddy releases, but it is clear that CA's business side has some issues, and SEGA has always had some glaring issues as well.

I remember thinking before release that its release date was pushed forwards. Though I would say either way a big reason it got launched when it did was due to pressure from SEGA, but I have no actual proof.
If you know anything about CA, is that even before Empire they released their games with major bugs.
Yeah but they fixed or improved them a lot. Empire was left with spider-man, clones, a extremely buggy naval warfare system (Lol rubber boats anybody?) and the worst of all: stupid campaign AI It's even more incredible that some guys without major access to the game code managed to drastically improve the AI, as seen in Darth Mod. Really, the Campaign AI in that mod acts like a true backstabbing sort-of-Machiavelli son of a bitch.
Empire is the black sheep in terms of not fixing the game. And if today's beta patch for Rome II is any indication, they're either A) going to fix any future messes they have with their games. or B) Try to prevent those messes in the first place. or C) Both A and B.
