What the fuck, you can shoot the Vort in the train?? I literally never knew that.
Holy shit Ross did went the extra mile with this one.

I believe he said in the videochat that he changed some of the AI for this one, you can try to shoot the vort but the bullets just go through it.

Nope, Ross edited the AI for that scene. The fact that he added the SMG for the Rebel to grab really shows the thought he put into interactions.
The sound / map editing is my favorite part of this series. It really makes the game come alive.
I called Freeman murdering the vort. He even aimed directly for the neck too, no getting out of that one alive.
I wonder how he'll cope when he gets to EP2 with all the vorts. I know it's years away but still. :v:

I guess he'll assume they're all the slaves of the two humans, and have to do what they say.

I'm intrigued enough by the Vort encounter after Sandtraps where you get the Antlion-controlling pheropods. Ross's Freeman might've cooled down enough to listen and figure some things out, or he'll start shooting and have to fight through the entire encampment (and either way he might reject the pods as too nasty like the hive hand in HL1, and will siege Nova Prospekt entirely on his own, heh).
In any case, the next big Vort encounter is the stop in the airboat trip where the rebels give him the machine gun. I don't think Ross can break the sequence by killing it due to the impossibility in killing the Combine chopper otherwise, but I think he's preparing for that by Freeman's reasoning that the rebels keep Vorts as slaves.
Man that scene with the vort went down exactly like I'd hoped.
this might be my favorite FM2 episode so far
The fact alone he went so far with changing that scene makes me love it. That's dedication. Making sure the guy gets pissed and goes for a gun is great.
IIRC, there are still lines in the base game where rebels will yell at you for killing Vorts, but since you can't kill them you never hear them.

I'm having trouble finding the sound files, but there's supposedly voice files for that same Boxcar Rebel yelling at you for shooting at the vortigaunt: http://combineoverwiki.net/wiki/Citizen/Quotes/Half-Life_2_-_Canals#Boxcar_Joe_2
Maybe it was a mod I had installed (or perhaps gmod added it?), but I remember rebels reacting to killing vorts in gmod.

I think they have some generic lines for killing allies, might be that.

I'm sure over time, most likely by black mesa east, he'll clue into the fact that they're equals now and be perpetually pissed off about it. Maybe we'll even get cheeky vort murdering scenes after scripted vorts have served their purpose.

I honestly doubt that Freeman's that open-minded here. It's not like you really have that many Vort scenes in HL2 to explain it all.
Really, there's a lot in the lore I think he'll miss. The coast shorelines might clue him in to part of the total devastation, but depending on how much he'll take away from the newspaper clippings in Eli's lab, he may only be vaguely aware of the Combine's nature by the time he's in the Citadel (or maybe Nova Prospekt). He may not even realize decades have passed fort Earth. I'm fully expecting him to be commenting on trying to call up Eddie over in the States or something like that.
Honestly I don't want Freeman killing every vortigaunt he sees forever. It'd ruin the eventual scene where he realizes he screwed up hard.

Pretty sure it was a one time thing for shock effect. I highly doubt he'll do any more as the ones you do see are pretty damn plot heavy/game breaking.
Watch as he modifies the story and it's just ends up being a time loop that goes back to Freeman's Mind very first episode.
Since we don't really have a "true" ending to HL3 besides the text post. He could always narrate it but I feel like Ross has his own little self-interpretation of the storyline and I believe he'll end up making a nice send off to the series.
Once he gets there, of course!
Yeah, this is probably going to be the only Vortigaunt that Freeman shoots. Past this, he's probably going to assume they're all the human's slaves.

Its a ways off but I want to see his reaction to the vorts in Episode 2.
Can't imagine he'll be happy working side by side with one.
I was playing through Half-Life 2: Update and found out Ross does commentary for that vortigaunt scene. How Fitting.

Is Ross using Half-Life 2: Update btw?
It took him 10 years to get to this point, I'd be surprised if he still wanted to keep doing the same thing by the time he finishes HL2 and the Episodes.
It's his biggest success and he's getting paid a lot for it.
Entertainers tend to get sick of doing the same thing for so long.
Even he on his website says "There are projects I would prefer to work on instead," and indicates that he'll drop it if interest dims.
