"There's no way it's going to be a disappointment"
I really don't understand the some of the major prequel hate, I like every star wars film and can't say I dislike one really at all, but that is just me. TBH I came out of TFA kind of disappointed (but I still liked it!), it was just more the same and apart from some great characters Disney didn't try to do anything new whatsoever.

:v:
Even though the prequels were shit, the soundtrack of Episode 3 was great.

If you're trying to make the point that the music in the prequels were great, I think Duel of the Fates should be the example:

trying new things too fast was why the prequels were so shit
I got into Star Wars only this year and I can admit that the prequels are pretty bad in comparison to the originals.
But I still love them. And it irritates me when people go out of their way to convince someone about how terrible the prequels were when someone states that they like them.
Turns me off to those sorts of people entirely. Like, let me enjoy what I wanna enjoy.
I appreciate that at least this one compiles reactions. Though personally, I would like to see more video of mixed reactions from viewers. The only real testimony I've seen of the initial negativity comes from that one clip from The People Vs. George Lucas.
Hayden Christensen was what ruined the prequels for me at least.
the force awakens is on bar to the phantom menace, where the music is the best thing in 1 while it's the worst thing in 7 and the worst of all the episodes. People have too much hype right now for that to sink in, I still remember quite well people wanting to kill me for stating problems in the prequels. It will take a while for people to come to accept the flaws of this film, especially the music.

I think you're forgetting about the near-instant backlash the prequel movies received that seems to be absent with the 7th movie.
also it's on par, just letting you know

The music is actually really good (especially Rey's theme), I just feel the mixing is weird as hell since you barely actually hear the music during the movie at times.

In some ways though it makes total sense to change it all up, it had been a long time since the last film and technology had jumped wildly in the industry. They clearly had a whole lot of fun filming these prequel films if you watch any behind the scenes and the editors/writers had a blast creating all of this new wild stuff for the Star Wars universe. Also not only did we have a new up and coming generation (some of whom hadn't seen a star wars flick) but also the old fans to appease. They clearly leaned toward trying to appease a newer generation first and foremost and did (I will admit) leave some of the older fans in the dust.
Also the prequels did generate a HUGE and I mean HUGE amount of new star wars fans and they drastically expanded the universe and its canon for the era 300-fold quite a few of the things prequels added I know a bunch of the "prequel haters" couldn't live without such as how much fun they had playing the Clone Wars era in Battlefront or watching both of the Clone Wars TV series. Yeah the prequels have their issues and the acting and writing can fall flat at a few points but I loved em, they got me hooked to Star Wars and personally now that they are done with, I wouldn't change them.

I really liked the force awakens music because they brought it so many of the classic motifs and worked it into small segments of their new music

Yeah, definitely. March of the Resistence is probably my favorite. It feels familiar, and then starts going in a slightly different direction. It's great.

nobody could have made "FROM MY POINT OF VIEW THE JEDI ARE EVIL" sound compelling. even poor ol' Ewan McGregor often seems tangibly annoyed with the quality of his lines
IMO Hayden is a decent actor that was given a shit script and character direction, and just couldn't figure out how to make it believable.

I actually felt like he did a good job when it came to parts where he had to act with his face and body. But when it comes to doing his lines and shit yeah he was pretty bad.

Contrived plot that often doesn't make sense, bad pacing, characters acting illogically, weird dialogue, hamfisting characters from the OT that didn't need to be there...
Most of it has to do with them not being very good films. The lore itself isn't too bad overall.
the prequels are three poorly written, awkwardly acted, shinning, boring childish messes we remember better than they are.
Take any prequel and compare it with a good movie, they arent even close to the quality standard of those years. They took all the work and putted it on the superficial stuff, teh digital characters, the worlds, the flashy things, and nothing on the script. Lucas did it on his own and it shows.
Can someone send me a PM to notify me when it's my turn to repost this video? Thanks.
Let's not forget that the words Hayden had to speak were written by a guy who thought Darth Icky was a good name for a Sith ...

Indeed. Remember: most of the cast for the prequels consisted of generally good actors and actresses (Samuel L Jackson, Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, Christopher Lee, the list goes on), yet all their performances got shafted by the terrible writing and direction.

It was Lucas' direction and writing for me

You can like whatever you want, the prequels are still objectively bad movies.
Not a huge fan of the prequels, but the fight with Darth Maul at the end of Episode 1 is still one of my favorites out of the entire series. He's probably one of my favorite villains too honestly, sucks that they wasted him on The Phantom Menace. :\

The thing about the prequels is that I honestly can't fathom how there are so many people who like them so fervently when the movies are made so incredibly poorly. The writing, the acting (which was probably a combination of the writing and direction), the angle with which each scene is shot, the pacing, the CGI, JarJar Binks, the boring long conversation scenes where nothing interesting happens, the jargon, the demystifying of the science fantasy, the ruining of the original trilogy if watched as a complete series, and visual clutter are all things I can't simply look past when I watch the prequels because they're all so egregious in their implementation. I just get bored when the dialogue is all shot countershot while sitting or walking slowly down a hallway.
Some people just like bad movies because it offers them something that they wanted, even if that something is a very minimal part of said movie.
And above that, some people just like bad movies.
