Parents will be forced to either vaccinate their children or register for an exemption in order to enrol them in childcare, after changes to the Public Health Act passed through cabinet Monday night.
Read more: http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/vaccinate-your-children-or-declare-why-not-parents-told-20130528-2n8wp.html#ixzz2UbRXUgln http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/vaccinate-your-children-or-declare-why-not-parents-told-20130528-2n8wp.html Suck it down, antivaxxer scum!
"Herp, autishum!"
This still means that religious and conspiracy theorists will get away with not vaccinating their kids, just means that parents who are too lazy to do it will have to get it done on their children. Not that fascinating, but still a nice move.
some of Sydney's wealthiest areas made up four of the nine NSW local areas listed by the National Health Performance Authority as being "at risk" of outbreaks because of low vaccination rates.
Of course.. stupid rich people caught up in idiotic trends.
Eh a move forward is a move forward.
"Herp, autishum!"
Pretty certain all the people have to do is say that the report was written by a shit-stirrer as intentional lies, and that all further studies have found no link whatsoever between vaccination and autism, and then vaccinate the kid anyway. I'm going to guess there's only a few valid excuses.
The MD that released that study admitted to it being a fraud and he lost his medical license due to it.
Andrew Wakefield was arrested for the fraud, too. He's probably one of the worst people alive, throwing aside ethics, integrity and the reputation of the scientific community for money, in addition to causing the rise in cases of measels, mumps and rubella, which is only just starting to go down again last I checked. Hell, I hate him enough that I've actually got his name memorised, despite the topic coming up fairly rarely. He's one of the worst people alive.
Doesn't change the fact that anti-vaxers are going to use it as their "excuse"
If it weren't that they'd claim nanobots put in by the government or sarin in the vaccine solutions, or whatever. A crazy person can make up a scapegoat out of anything.
Doesn't change the fact that many of their children will probably die of diseases that they should be immune to.
and even vaccinated children may get sick as well. vaccines don't work 100% of the time. if a kid gets vaccinated but doesn't get a good immune response from the vaccine, then they are still at risk for the disease. that's why something like 95% of a population has to be given the mmr shot. anything less and epidemics are possible.
I wish my brother didn't have the MMR vaccine as it caused him to develop transverse myelitis. But I'm not saying other people shouldn't have it, that's quite silly.

But I'm not saying other people shouldn't have it, that's quite silly.
The thing is though, transverse myelitis is curable and not lethal, (nor is it infectious), while having a bad case of polio could kill you. It's really a pay-off and otherwise you're playing a game of chances.

Still, there is literally no scenario where your parents wouldn't have decided to vaccinate him, as it would've been dumb not to, not knowing the consequences. Obviously, in retrospect, you wish he hadn't gotten it, but I hope you're not angry at the decision. Hope it goes him well though!
The kicker is that in the UK due to the statute of limitations he can't get any compensation as 10 years has passed since vaccination.
