Mao is the centrepiece of the ruling party's pantheon and commands reverence among many Chinese, including some frustrated by the current state of the nation, but is also condemned by those who say his political and economic campaigns caused tens of millions of deaths. The combination left authorities looking to mark the occasion with a tricky balancing act. "Mao is a great figure who changed the face of the nation and led the Chinese people to a new destiny," Xi said in Beijing, according to the official news agency Xinhua. But he added: "Revolutionary leaders are not gods, but human beings. (We) cannot worship them like gods or refuse to allow people to point out and correct their errors just because they are great. "Neither can we totally repudiate them and erase their historical feats just because they made mistakes."
Dirty commies
ALL GLORY TO CHAIRMAN MAO even though he *cough* killed40millionpeople *cough* ALL GLORY TO THE CHAIRMAN LITTLE RED BOOK LITTLE RED BOOK
But he added: "Revolutionary leaders are not gods, but human beings. (We) cannot worship them like gods or refuse to allow people to point out and correct their errors just because they are great. "Neither can we totally repudiate them and erase their historical feats just because they made mistakes."
I like that, I need to remember that one.

his mistakes killed millions and created an oppressive regime with horrible human rights abuses but i guess the dudes in power because of that regime would think he's the man
To call those millions of deaths merely a mistake is pretty degrading IMO.
To call those millions of deaths merely a mistake is pretty degrading IMO.
The Communist regime still really doesn't care about Chinese people.
I'd say George Washington made a few 'mistakes' of his own, but perhaps he wasn't working with quite the same population density as Mao. Founding leaders tend to be not too great when you look at them critically. It's a matter of degrees, surely.
The difference between a third degree burn and first degree burn.
Tell that to the Native Americans.

He utilized forced labour, attacked during truces, was a mediocre general who lost a lot of battles, requisitioned supplies from the people he was meant to be protecting, his forces suffered from high attrition rates, and after winning the war he cocked up managing the economy and ended up becoming deified in his own country.

Washington didn't have his enemies tortured to death, either.
Yeah but Washington was 12 stories tall and made of radiation.
There's still that whole "killing 70-100 million of his people" bit.
During the Communist revolution the reds were actually treating peasants with respect. The Hearts and Minds of the people were incredibly important in that war and the American War for Independence.
In some aspects Washington could be similar to Mao.
The American revolution wasn't about freedom or anything. It was about independence. They even considered creating a monarchy but just decided to have a wealthy landowning elite rule the country. Comparing Valley Forge to the Long March is a bit uncanny.
Yeah but Washington was 12 stories tall and made of radiation.
I actually heard he was just 6'5" and weighed a fucking ton.

The USA had a population in the hundreds of thousands, so it's inevitable he can't kill 70 to 100 million people (especially when not that many even existed in that entire continent). As for torturing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarring_and_feathering
snip double post
To call those millions of deaths merely a mistake is pretty degrading IMO.
well, it's a start
I actually heard he was just 6'5" and weighed a fucking ton.
I heard he had thirty goddamn dicks.

It wasn't fucking mistakes, he knew what all of it was happening was by his hand, he not only allowed it to happen, but took major steps to do even more damage for the sake of wealth and self-power. If there's one person that deserves to burn in hell for eternity, it's Mao Zedong.
Tell that to the Native Americans.
As if it was solely the american settlers who were at fault. Everyone wanted to play a game of grab when it came to the new world. And a difference of a few hundred years.
Tell that to the Native Americans.
What happened to the Native Americans was pretty terrible, but, realistically, 80%-90% died of disease, not purposeful attack by the Europeans.
