The device was found after reports of suspicious activity near the Maultway just after 10:00 BST.
Several properties on the nearby Cheylesmore Park estate are being evacuated and the road has been closed with drivers urged to avoid the area.
Surrey Police said officers were at the site and cordons had been put in place to ensure public safety.
oh dear
Surrey Police said it was thought to be a transmitter for a radio station and cordons were lifted at about 14:55 BST.
A spokeswoman for the force said the device was found on land close to Colony Gate, near the junction with the Old Bisley Road.
She added: "Surrey Police can confirm that army bomb disposal experts have assessed the suspicious device found in Camberley this morning and have declared it not to be dangerous.
"The unit is now described as being a transmitter or repeater for a citizen or pirate band radio station.
"Roads are now reopened and cordons have been lifted."
The site of the incident is about seven miles (11km) from the military training academy Sandhurst, and earlier Surrey Police ruled out any connection.
False alarm :v:
When I lived in Surrey TWICE the highstreet in Guildford got shut off because someone forgot their bag in a shop, dunno what makes them so jumpy.

Probably the fact that there's a lot of military personnel and their families live in the area. Places near Aldershot were big targets during the Troubles.
