The actor Wentworth Miller has declined an invitation to the St Petersburg international film festival. In a letter, he explains that, as a gay man, he cannot accept the invitation, and goes on to explain that if Russia's treatment of people like him changes, he could make a different decision.
Miller chose to publicly mention his sexuality for the first time as part of a letter about a wider issue. Recently WWE wrestler Darren Young came out when asked by a paparazzi what his views were about gay wrestlers. Young replied: "Look at me. I'm a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay. And I'm happy. I'm very happy."

Good on him.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I can't wait until "coming out" isn't a big issue anymore and people can finally go on about their lives not caring about someone's orientation.

To some extent it will always be a thing because most people will assume someone is straight unless proven otherwise. And he hardly made a big issue of coming out he just mentioned it off-hand when discussing the discriminatory Russian laws.
Wait, he's gay?

I know, right!
Well, I'm sure that he'd enjoy dropping the soap in prison. :v:

This is becoming more and more common, I was lucky enough to have everyone I care about be accepting of it, as time goes on and culture changes I reckon it would be more uncommon to have people make a fuss about it.

That's an extremely optimistic way of looking at things. Religious fundamentalism is growing in the west and there's been a continuous shift towards the political right in both British and American politics. This could just be the calm before the storm; strike whilst the irons hot because we could very easily, in a generation or less, start moving in the other direction.

What
lmao all of that is not true

Yes it is. Faith schools and more fundamental views on religion are growing in popularity. America has never really had a left wing but the tea party has pushed the republican party even further to the right and Britain has been getting more right wing since the 1980s, we now have a socialist party that isn't socialist, even "Red Ed" has been fighting the unions.
You're a fool if you think history only moves in one direction, it's just a series of events things could get better and they could get worse and at the moment politics seems to removing to the right which probably won't be good for homosexuals.
He's gay?
Kind of surprised.
