Afghans burn Obama effigy at film demo (time stamp, around 11:00 AM EST) AFP Via google News
Hundreds of Afghan protesters took to the streets on Friday, setting fire to an effigy of US President Barack Obama and demanding the death of a film-maker who they say insulted the Prophet Mohammed. The demonstration in Nangarhar province, which borders Kabul to the west and Pakistan to the east, saw clerics in the Shinwari tribe call for a $100,000 bounty on the head of the producer of the film, "Innocence of Muslims". An Obama effigy was also torched, said Zaher Ali, deputy chief of Ghanikhail district's council of clerics, but the protest passed off peacefully and fears about demonstrations in the capital Kabul were not realised. "Death to America", and "death to the enemies of Islam", shouted the crowd, according to an AFP photographer, in what are fairly routine chants at anti-US protests in Afghanistan. The low-budget movie, in which actors have strong US accents, portrays Muslims as immoral and gratuitously violent. It pokes fun at the Prophet Mohammed and touches on themes of paedophilia and homosexuality, while showing him sleeping with women, talking about killing children and referring to a donkey as "the first Muslim animal". Afghanistan is a devout Muslim country where anything seen as insulting to Islam is taken very seriously, often with a violent response. Riots killed around 40 people earlier this year after US troops burnt copies of the Koran on a military base. On Tuesday, US ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed in Libya, reportedly by a mob angered by the film. Violent protests erupted across the Middle East on Friday. The government has ordered an indefinite ban on YouTube to prevent access to the film, which it has condemned as "inhuman and insulting". "This is the work of American Jews, their movie has hurt the sentiments of Muslims around the world," prominent cleric Enayatullah Baleegh told several thousand worshippers at the Pul-e-Khishti mosque in central Kabul. Baleegh said it was not the first time Americans had insulted Islam and said the work by "two Americans" -- apparently referring to the film-makers -- had resulted in the deaths of the American diplomats in Libya. "These two Jews and President Obama should be held accountable for the death of their diplomats because it shows the incompetency of the Obama administration and that he could not control such an insulting act," said the cleric. Mystery remains over who is behind the film, amid conflicting claims of Jewish or Coptic Christian involvement. Baleegh said the "filthy" producers should be held accountable for any US soldiers killed in Afghanistan as a result of Muslim anger over the film, but told worshippers that if they demonstrate "don't let it be violent". The US embassy said staff had been ordered to "minimise outside activity" and reminded citizens that "past demonstrations in Afghanistan have escalated into violent attacks on Western targets of opportunity". About 117,000 NATO troops are based in Afghanistan helping President Hamid Karzai's government put down a 10-year Taliban insurgency.
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5jOIHa3dQUGnVoGWQWcMLRjHONNVg?docId=CNG.87e3e725f22eab0a90bdd76811f62cc0.ae1
Jesus, shits going crazy.
for fuck's sake calm your shit guys you're making muslims look even worse than the video did
I wonder how many of the protesters have seen the film. I think I'm going to have to watch it eventually if I want to say anything about it, because it probably is insulting. But when I was reading about the attack on the consulate, I remember reading that a bunch of people were protesting just because they heard about the movie, not that they'd seen it or anything. Maybe it's not that bad? (Okay so it probably is to them)
Love how it's supposed to be a "friendly protest" but to me burning things and screaming "death to america, etc" isn't really friendly.
It scares me that people would kill me just because I'm an American, I mean I'm a person too, and so are they.
What's the video in question? I'm curious.
I wonder how many of the protesters have seen the film. It's just a huge misinterpretation on their part. Their fault for assuming that our government had control in the creation of independent media when government doesn't.
"These two Jews and President Obama should be held accountable for the death of their diplomats because it shows the incompetency of the Obama administration and that he could not control such an insulting act," said the cleric.
Does he really think that Obama controls the Internet?
Does he really think that Obama controls the Internet?
Freedom of speech is an unknown concept to them.
Found the video: Wow, Goblin, you weren't really kidding when you said that it was shitty. I feel bad for the actors. According to an interview, the actors were unaware of the fact that it was an anti-muslim film. They claimed that the director redubbed the entire film.
It's fucked up how American right wingers hate Obama because they think he hates Israel and loves Muslims, and right wingers in the middle east hate Obama because they think he loves Israel and hates Muslims.
It scares me that people would kill me just because I'm an American, I mean I'm a person too, and so are they.
people like them wouldn't survive a minute here, dont worry
Racists!
It scares me that people would kill me just because I'm an American, I mean I'm a person too, and so are they.
Don't allow yourself to be sacred by them though. That's how they win. [sp]I mean, you cannot deny that this has gone from protest to terrorism to full blown rioting. I'm really worried for our troops over there though. Al-Queda and Taliban are probably the instigators of this event anyways, probably to get more recruits.[/sp]
ehh can't say the west hasn't done anything to deserve it
ehh can't say the west hasn't done anything to deserve it
Deserve it or not when is it ever good to instigate people to kill others based solely on ethnicity?
Deserve it or not when is it ever good to instigate people to kill others based solely on ethnicity?
it isn't, but people take islam very seriously in the middle east seriously, it's a firecracker waiting to go off

Religion of peace
Religion of peace
for the most part. A few extremists doesn't stop that.
Uhhhh..... LETS NUKE THEM AND STEAL THEIR GAS
for the most part. A few extremists doesn't stop that.
I wish people would bring this point up in those threads about whacky 'Christian' antics. It would keep them from turning into the huge /r/atheism circlejerks they always become.
Jesus christ. We are all human, we are all forced to live together on this rock we call a planet. How hard is it to put aside our differences and co-exist? Killing for ethnicity's sake is fucked up. Poor Obama, I can only imagine the flak he is getting right now for something that really isn't his fault.
This proves that religion is nothing but a joke.
A PORN MOVIE HAS A BETTER STORYLINE THEN THIS!
