[AP] Trump's New Travel Ban: Removes Iraq from List, Ban Only Applies to New Visas
65 replies, posted
President Donald Trump's revised travel ban will temporarily halt entry to the United States for people from six Muslim-majority nations who are seeking new visas, allowing those with current visas to travel freely, according to a fact sheet obtained by The Associated Press.
Trump was to sign the new executive order on Monday. The directive aims to address legal issues with the original order, which caused confusion at airports, sparked protests around the country and was ultimately blocked by the courts.
The revised order is narrower and specifies that a 90-day ban on people from Sudan, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen does not apply to those who already have valid visas. The White House also dropped Iraq from the list of targeted countries, following pressure from the Pentagon and State Department, which had urged the White House to reconsider, given Iraq's key role in fighting the Islamic State group.
The fact sheet cites negotiations that resulted in Iraq agreeing to "increase cooperation with the U.S. government on the vetting of its citizens applying for a visa to travel to the United States."
A fact sheet detailing the order was distributed to lawmakers and obtained by the AP.
OK now it's making less and less sense. What dangers does Yemen, Somalia, Yemen or Libya have towards the United States?
Will there still not be issues over this considering the weird selection of countries and the obvious targetting of Muslim-majority countries or is this considered legal?

Not to mention Iran sitting there on that list while KSA's absence, despite all they've done, continues to be glaringly obvious. But then again, it would be foolish for Trump to include KSA on the list.
This will accomplish absolutely nothing.

Libya is probably one of the few logical ones on this list considering it's still in a state of unrest, and people there may hold anti-US sentiments considering the US got involved in the 2011 civil war there (which, again, is still going on...) and it had fucking ISIS in it not too long ago (i believe they're still active in Libya but mostly in hiding though).
The US banning travel to/from a nation currently undergoing a civil war of which the US had a hand in? Also ISIS? Yeah probably a good idea.
"Okay, our order was killed because it's religious discrimination and obviously excepts the country that I have significant business ties to. What do we do?"
"Uh just like the same thing but get rid of Iraq and make it only for people who didn't get their visas yet don't worry"
I know Trump is a moron but I thought he'd at least appoint some legal advisors who weren't morons.

If there's no terror attacks during the ban, his followers will praise him
If there IS a terror attack during the ban, his followers will attack the liberals who opposed it in the first place, possibly even calling for more drastic measures
He can't lose. He has a follower base that will support him no matter what he does.

One would think that he might surround himself with advisers who think like him and dispose of whoever doesnt toe his line, like he's already done with the US attorney general.
The likes of Trump with an ego the size of Jupiter cannot stand for a stronger personality that refuses to acknowledge his pipe dreams and ego trips and consider them a threat to his own ego.
Get the protests going again. There is no reason to block people coming in because of where they come from. This is just as bullshit as the original order.

at this point, we should worry about convincing other democrats and those in the center. generally, the far/alt right is pretty much a lost cause. if individuals from those groups wisen up, then good on them, but mounting a whole campaign to point out the truths is pointless, since they are convinced anything not from briebart is fake news anyways
While I can't speak for the whole of Somalia, it is in a pretty rough state besides the new president that was elected aside from that I don't see why it's getting banned, I'm getting most of this from my Somalian dad.

Good luck, a Fox news Poll has basically revealed that 53% Percent of America want you to move on from protesting,

Fox News is in bed with trump so that's not surprising

A lot of their polls are still good.
Note: what's is pushing a lot of people out from the protest is Protest => Violence => Rioting

most protests have been peaceful though
most protests have been peaceful though
Each Time Your protest turns into a riot, it damages people's view of the people protesting.
If you're going by the logic of excluding countries that export terrorism then you should include Saudi Arabia on that list.

He won't, because he has business interests there.
Not necessarily. No guarantees.
Don't be so quick about it.

Apparently it was conducted by a pollster which has a pretty decent track record, even a very slight democrat bias.

Second this:

It tarnishes the reputation of protesting as a whole because although you're right and most protests aren't an issue, you can't trust them not to become shit flinging fight clubs. And when they're not violent, the protests that block roads and make airports even more of a pain in the ass for regular people hurt the idea of protesting as well.

First Amendment rights, buddy. I'll protest as much as I damn well please

53% of America is dumb.

*53% of America that took a FOX NEWS poll is dumb.
I highly doubt that the sample pool is unbiased

That doesn't change the fact that most protests have been peaceful.

sorry that protesting is so inconvienient

I wasn't trying to say most protests weren't peaceful - I agreed there. The ones that turn ugly make people hate all protesting though because "oh boy, how long before this one becomes violent!"
And, you shouldn't excuse the inconvenience of protesting for people who quite possibly agree with the motive but have lives to go about. They shouldn't have to deal with waiting 8 more hours at an airport because protesters made them miss their original flight.
Trying to justify people being against protests because a few of the protestors are dickheads is laughable. They're fundamental to any democracy. We probably should have protested a few things over here in the past (and I wish I could have gone to a few student demonstrations but them usually being in Dublin doesn't help).
The violence certainly isn't justified - which is why it's never been organised or carried out by the actual protestors or their organisers. It's a few offshoots causing trouble.

But that's the whole point of a protest? If a protest was out of everyone's way, no one would give a shit.

The way you say it makes me feel like you've never been affected by such a protest. I can't reasonably argue that innocent local business owners who now view protests with a sour taste shouldn't be against them, because they were looted and/or destroyed and lost everything they had. The same for people who missed important meetings or time with family across the country because they couldn't get on their flight, or people who were fired from their job or missed out on pay for being late because people were in the middle of the road screaming at them and holding them up.
I don't care about whether or not people protest, just don't be a violent idiot and please, talk to your Congressmen too, your input into the politic world should not begin and end at protesting.
The reason they are elected is to represent their constituency, so you have to make your voice heard; ideally across several avenues.
Let's not go down this dumb anti protest road again. Protests are essential to democracy. As for riots and violence MLK once said "a riot is the language of the unheard". Not to defend violent unrest or the self defeating nature of such protests, but when people are turning to violence to be heard maybe it's time something changed.
