Bitgamer, a favorite torrent tracker for [del]illicit downloads of copyrighted games[/del] completely legal downloads of self published games (and linux distros) has gone the way of Megaupload and Demonoid. Anyone visiting the site today was greeted by the following text and some incredibly sad music:
2006 - 2012
We've reached the end of the ride. bitGAMER has been an amazingly fun ride, but all rides must come to an end.
For those who don't know, bitGAMER began as a small sister-site of Underground Gamer. What started as a side-project of several UG staff members quickly grew into a 65,000 member behemoth with an identity all its own. Our small hobby project turned into something that went well beyond all of our dreams.
Of course, you all know that the legal climate has changed over the years, so we won't bore you with that stuff. More importantly, the founders are simply ready to move on with their lives. Running an immensely popular gaming tracker is rewarding, but it's also a very stressful, and often thankless, task. We hope that closing this door will open other doors in our lives, and that we can take all of the lessons we've learned from bitGAMER into the next phase of our lives.
The bitGAMER community has been incredible since the beginning. We want to take this moment to thank each and every member of the community who contributed in any way and allowed this community to thrive for so long.
Thank you,
// bG Staff
The sudden closure (especially during a free leech period) has lead many to believe that this is temporary or a prank, but so far all signs point to a permanent closure of the site. Though the farewell notice passingly mentions a change in the legal climate, it's unclear at this point whether a legal threat was to blame for the sudden closure.
Underground Gamer, which is the 'parent' site and deals mostly in older games, is so far unaffected and will remain up for the time being.
Shame :(.
RIP :(
I always hate seeing an old site end.
Well, if you're looking for a similar site that has more current linux distros Blackcats is open for registration now.
It really is sad to see it go, I made a lot of friends there over the years.
Man I just got an invite 2 weeks ago...
Damn. I couldnt load anything the last freeleech because my hdd was full. Now I got a new one and they close :(
I was just about to download a ton of PS3 games because I'm still on 3.55 ... :(
(User was banned for this post ("Warez" - MaxOfS2D))
Don't remind me, I didn't believe it when I was first told.
Damn shame.
What the hell :( hoping this is a joke. the overly-dramatic music would seem to imply it, but who knows really
Aw, this was like the one site I always wanted to get into.. That's sad.
It's like TPB and isohunt are the only places for torrenting anymore.
FUCK
For those who haven't seen it:

[editline]2nd January 2013[/editline]
and self published games
first btjunkie and now this :( all my favorite linux distros are gonna be gone
whoa whoa WHAT
i knew this was a somewhat respectable tracker and community but i didnt think with all the support it was getting it would ever shut down without notice
3. We didn't give advance warning due to the nature of the site. We don't want to give any advance notice in case someone was ready to kick someone's door in at the last minute.
Basically, they didn't want to give any authorities advance warning in case they were planning to raid the servers or the homes of staff at some point, but that also meant they needed to pull the plug right without telling their users too. If they do it without telling anyone, by the time everything is shut down and the news is out, everything's been wiped and all the data of its users is removed, meaning any raid at that point would be useless.
Damn,just got 2TB upload.Gonna miss it.
I didn't think to screencap proof of my ratio either so I can't use that as leverage to get an invite at some of the more super-exclusive trackers now. Had a 4.something ratio too, which was a pain to get with my shit upload speeds.
I didn't think to screencap proof of my ratio either
I guarantee you so many people are in this boat.
I guarantee you so many people are in this boat.
I feel more sorry for the people with ratios in the hundreds, without screencaps no one is going to believe them when they say they had a 125.25 ratio. Of course, those people who go through the trouble and spend the money on seedboxes to get that kind of ratio probably have tons of caps of their ratio, so they won't have a problem.
Since this one is now down
Does anyone else know a other good site for torrents?
Welp, time to shut down my seedbox. Goodnight, sweet prince.

Sent for an invite yesterday and never got an email :(
Fuck this, over 1 Tb uploaded with a shitty 1 Mb upload connection. The first and only private tracker I used (besides BG for old games) since I got internet in my place, I almost had a seizure when I saw the notice. Godspeed, BG.

Oh.
When I signed up I got 2 free invites, but "Because the user limit has been reached you are unable to send invites at this time."
