• I'll Never Look at the Sky in the Same Way Ever Again...

So I was browsing around and ran across something that really got me thinking, "Wow, our world really can be beautiful!". Sometimes you just have to stop, think, and relax - I think these are more than just relaxing... but refreshing. Enjoy. What are your views on the topic - conserve or expand? Preserve or destroy? I'm talking about our environment. I included a poll on this page, please vote and share your thoughts!
When I look at the sky I normally utter "Stop fucking raining" I hate living in Britain
Haha Right? I'll agree with you there, the sky brings weather - weather can get annoying!
I normally look at the sky and see gray clouds with occasional black cloud pouring down. Finnish winter. Nowadays anyway.

"Its preserved forever in our memories and all those fun media storage devices."
Human progression is ultimately more important than protecting the environment. Eventually we'll reach the point where we don't need the earth anymore, but we can't do that without aggressive technological expansion. Of course, that's not to say we should just go willy nilly and dump all our toxic waste into the ocean, but if we run out of safe places to put it then look out fish here I come. tldr: space is way cooler than earth
Is there anyone who WANTS to destroy the environment? I think it's more that some people want to save it, and then there are the people who just don't care.
Is there anyone who WANTS to destroy the environment?
VHEMT has to have some sort of counterculture.
My car doesn't understand the terms "fuel economy" or "emissions standards," it's a V8 from '95. I'm not going to go on some huge Eco-freak thing if it costs me more money to be "environmentally friendly," but if Eco-crap is cheap then I'll buy it. That's the big problem, Eco-crap usually costs too much for people to care, there's a "green tax," figuratively, on a lot of these products that turns people away, because most people care about their wallets more than the environment, myself included. That being said, I've been camping in some absolutely stunning places, Algonquin Park being one, and as a supporter of hunting I can see and recognize the need for natural, undeveloped land, and the need to keep pollutants out of these areas for the safety of the campers, wildlife, game, and the hunters who will be eating the game.
I personally don't care. I wouldn't want to see it DESTROYED, definitely not, at least, to its full extent. However, if some of the environment need be cleared for urban development, so long as it doesn't put the environment as a whole in danger... I don't mind. Rainforest clearing, for example, in South America, is to excessive and destructive for my tastes, as animals are indeed being put in danger of extinction, with the addition of the fact that rain forests themselves are a rarity. However, forest clearing to make way for roads, urban development, etc. is no problem for me.
"Expand Society, Destroy It" As if expanding society equates to destroying the environment, which it doesn't. I like how George Carlin put it:
this thread moved me. I'm selling all my possessions, using the proceeds to donate to environmental charities then jumping into a volcano to please the environment.
This reminds me of a girl in my English class in high school. We somehow got to the discussion of the environment and she mentioned something about wanting to destroy all the buildings so that the Earth could reclaim itself. She was a bit of a pretentious douche about it, though, so I just sat there and smiled and nodded to keep her from attacking me. I'm all for conservation, but it's possible to conserve and expand humanity at the same time.
