http://bigstory.ap.org/article/us-tourists-survive-ship-sinking-near-st-lucia Fuck that's hardcore, I could barely swim for an hour.
Fuck, and I can't even swim.
Fuck, and I can't even swim.
well they also had life jackets on
well they also had life jackets on
So it was more like 'floating for 14 hours'. Which still sucks, ofcourse. I mean, what are you going to do? Not check your mail/messages on your smartphone, you aren't. Unless there's a WIFI bouy nearby, and your phone is waterproof. And as far as games go, the only thing that I can imagine you could play would be I SPY, which is boring as hell when you're floating out in the ocean. Not to mention if the other guy goes insane out of boredom and starts singing christmas songs or something.

At one point, they had to kill one of their own men because he went mad and started screaming that the Japanese were trying to get him, and attacked his buddies.
Thanks, If you hadn't put the title in all caps I wouldn't have noticed this thread!

there's no way they could tread water for 14 hours without some kind of help... Even pros would find that ridiculously difficult.
It was past midnight, and they didn't notice any homes in the area.
Fuck that must have been freaky. :(
Think about being in the ocean in the middle of the night. The life jacket keeps you afloat, but only enough you keep your head clear of the water. The entire rest of your body is submerged in the pitch black ocean with the bottom many hundreds of meters below your feet and a wide variety of things in the sea that can do you harm. That would be unnerving.
Only thing I fear when swimming in the sea is getting leg cramp then being unable to swim to shore.

Bonus points if something is reaching out from the abyss (mostly seaweed or sea mines), and if there's something large and barely visible at the bottom (sea mines again, shipwreck, large rocks), then I'm terrified..
seaweed touching your toes is the worst feeling ever
Almost as bad as jellyfish.
first off your not going to have sea mines anywhere where you are swimming, second seaweed touching your toes is the worst feeling ever
Oh I know, I just use sea mines as an example because they're big and they hang from the bottom of the ocean, which is deep and dark. It's literally all 3 of my worst ocean fears in one package, so it's the perfect example even though I'll never see them out there. But seaweed and large rocks sticking out of the abyss are more than enough to terrify me. I get the chills just thinking about it.

The thought of unfathomable depths hiding absolutely massive creatures from us is so exciting, but at the same time, I wouldn't want to float out at sea either, knowing there is nothing but abyssal depths below me. Holy fuck they made it to de_Dust!
She is noteworthy as a U.S. Navy vessel that has apparently been attacked by an unknown species of giant squid. In 1978, the "NOFOUL" rubber coating of her AN/SQS-26 SONAR dome was damaged by multiple cuts over 8 percent of the dome surface. Nearly all of the cuts contained remnants of sharp, curved claws found on the rims of suction cups of some squid tentacles. The claws were much larger than those of any squid that had been discovered at that time.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Stein_%28FF-1065%29
first off your not going to have sea mines anywhere where you are swimming, second seaweed touching your toes is the worst feeling ever
Our local pool failed its health and safety test cause it had sea mines in it.
Imagine the wrinkly skin after being in the water for that long, IMAGINE IT!!!

The war must have really gotten to his head.
