huh.
saw it in a museum last week.
just huh.
Have you not heard of Video Art?
It was a big-ass deal in the late 80s and 90s, not so much anymore though.
for all we know this could have met the brief really well. some of my motion briefs in graphic design are insanely abstract. but then again you said it was being exhibited
Is that really art?
You can tell me I'm not deep enough to understand or whatever but really, can you honestly say this looks any better than what we all made as kids when we first tried windows movie maker?
Or am I just a few clicks away from being a millionaire because I do have something from when I was 12 that looks remarkably similar

Yeah, go do it right now! Go make a windows movie maker video and submit it to the Louvre. You'll totally become a famous artist.
Art is 1% talent, 99% brand name recognition.
This is basically what satire of art looks today.

I'd show you the video and ask you to point out how it isn't art and how this video is but unfortunately it's at home (and it's incredibly embarrassing so I probably wouldn't do that anyway)
But really, where do you draw the line? What is art and what isn't? When does messing around with filters and pre-built effects become art?
Random video effects to random clips with the occascional text.
This looks like something a child would do with a video editing software.
the part at 2:50 is definitely my favorite

a lot of people hide behind auter theory (that is that the intentions of the creator are what matters most, not how others interpret it) as a sort of whitewash for criticism, which is bullshit. it certainly is "art" in that it's produced and is intended to have some sort of meaning, however there's no way that the layman will pick up on any intended themes in this.
i'll say there's a couple interesting shots and transitions (ie where the polkadots slowly encompass the ferriswheel (1:55 and on), and it seems to take some sort of exploration into circles, as they're a running theme
but beyond that there's not really much that's easily seen, it's sorta too cryptic to be anything. which isn't a direction that i really like when it comes to art - dali is my favorite painter, and creates hugely vague and confusing images to look at, but they're also extremely emotional to the point that most people can get some sort of personal meaning out of them and connect with them on a certain level. stuff like this is hard to connect to.
Did Tim & Eric make that?
also components of it are poorly produced like if they really were so intense about doing the spinning bits they should have captured larger images and then simply spun them around so that we never saw the edges of the images. instead of a wheel it was a rectangle rotating lmao which just made it look cheap

Oh it's definitely art, just not necessarily good.

This is kinda my feelings on most of this pretentious stuff. Like you said, some art you can connect to and feel emotions, it's a lot easier with music and films, but this? I don't think it has a meaning, it's just someone wanted to pretend it has a deep meaning, and no one wanted to admit they really haven't the foggiest of what on earth is going on so they just pretended they saw meaning too and so it turned up in an exhibition
If no one can take any meaning from it, and if it's not visually/emotionally/whatever stimulating, should it be called art?
This video makes me very uncomfortable for no apparent reason

some do mate. just because you feel nothing doesn't mean it's the same for the rest.
It's just a film.
The thing with art is that trying to define art in simple terms does not really work. A whole shitton of stuff is art, and really just saying something is art can mean it is art. Though there is also good art and bad art, although it is subjective whether it is good or bad.
Like this .408 bullet I have on my desk, I could put it on a pedestal and call it art, however in my opinion it is pretty terrible art and doesnt really deserve to be in a museum.
In my opinion this video is sort of odd though it does have some artistic value. I dont think enough for a museum, but obviously someone thinks it does have enough for a museum.
That was one long ass intro video.
Do you have a link to the actual art part of it?
[QUOTE=Maruhai;44227954]

Never said it wasn't. All I said is it's not a big deal these days.
Well it's art to someone.
This is old news there are much more minimal art pieces. I have to deal woth studying this shit all day in art school and it's horrible because personally I prefer narrative art and illustrative art but my profesors are really into this kind of modern art.
I see the value in it in the sense that it tries to push the boundaries of what art is but I'm not into it at all.

i sincerely doubt the guy who made this is even making a career from the piece - let alone an amount of money that would consider him a 'millionaire.'

there is no intro
[editline]14th March 2014[/editline]
it's all "art"
it's just an experimental film that looks 'tim and eric'-esque
it's kinda soothing
