There has been conflicting information on where exactly the vessel is, but a Russian senator has confirmed to Izvestia daily that the frigate defected to the Russian side. “Ukraine’s Navy flagship the Hetman Sahaidachny has come over to our side today. It has hung out the St Andrew’s flag,” Senator Igor Morozov, a member of the committee on the international affairs, told Izvestia daily. He said the flagship is on its way back to the Black Sea after drills in the Mediterranean. “The crew has fulfilled the order by the chief commander of Ukraine’s armed forces Viktor Yanukovich,” he added. The move comes after the Navy command resigned Friday. Self-appointed President Aleksandr Turchinov made Rear Admiral Denis Berezovsky the new Navy Chief, a statement published on the President’s website Saturday said.

The Federation Council unanimously endorsed a proposal by Vladimir Putin for the Russian armed forces on the territory of Ukraine. Cenatory believe that this decision is absolutely correct, because at this moment the situation in Ukraine and in Crimea has reached a critical point. Member of the Committee on International Affairs, Igor Morozov, who currently is in Crimea, told Izvestia that the RUSSIAN armed forces are prepared to carry out any operations. He confirmed that today is the flagship of the Navy of Ukraine "Hetman Sahaidachny" moved to the side of Russia. -Ukraine has virtually no Navy. The flagship of the NAVY of Ukraine "Hetman Sahaidachny" today switched to our side. They hung out St. Andrew's flag. The flagship goes after the exercises from the Mediterranean into the black with a St. Andrew's flag. They complied, Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of Ukraine Victor Yanukovich and went to the side of Russia, he said. Russia will protect its citizens, said Morozov.
as some people might say "they've gone over to the dark side". let's keep in mind that this entire situation is terribly complex, east ukraine, west ukraine, crimea, svoboda, the new govt, russia, the economic effects, and the newly appointed heads of several oblasts. i would love some input from actual ukrainians of all regions. other than that i don't quite fancy this news topic since it essentially devolves into cold war bullshit.
Give a source that isn't RT or a website that uses RT as a source. That isn't a source that isn't RT. The only thing they state is a vague
but a Russian senator has confirmed to Izvestia daily that the frigate defected to the Russian side.
that no one but RT is confirming. Perhaps something that doesn't require editors to resign when the government dislikes their coverage.
Raf Shakirov, editor-in-chief of Izvestia, was forced to resign because the government officials did not like the paper's coverage of the Beslan school hostage crisis.

Give a source that isn't RT or a website that uses RT as a source.
Izvestia? You asked for it.

That's either mutiny or treason [editline]2nd March 2014[/editline] Or both
If people are allowed to post BS from Euromaidian people should be allowed to post BS from RT. No double standard should be applied to censorship of the media if you're going to promote censorship. Censorship of the media is wrong overall. SH isn't a section reserved for the easily manipulated.
BS should not be posted in the first place, not posted equally.
Whose job is it to confirm or deny BS?

wait people are actually calling it BS? Izhvesta reported it first, then RT, now the Aussie business insider, i'm waiting for kommersant and rianovosti to confirm. i understand RT is sensationalist, but no more than daily mail or telegraph has been on this. besides the primary source of all of this is Izhvesta which was not vauge at all.
I know we have a few FP uses that are Ukrainian. Like to know what they're thoughts are on this and what is happening over there.
That's either mutiny or treason [editline]2nd March 2014[/editline] Or both
It's treason. Mutiny is when the crew rises up against the captain.
i'm really shit at editing the OP so another news source and quote posted here Macedonia interational news agency
here has been conflicting information on where exactly the vessel is, but a Russian senator has confirmed to Izvestia daily that the frigate defected to the Russian side. “Ukraine’s Navy flagship the Hetman Sahaidachny has come over to our side today. Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the Prime Minister Ukraine’s self-imposed government, had earlier asked his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan not to let the frigate through the Bosporus strait, according to the Kiev Times. The ship captain and the head of Ukraine’s contingent in the operation, Rear Admiral Andrey Tarasov disobeyed orders from Kiev. The Hetman Sahaidachny returns to Sevastopol, Crimea after taking part in a joint counter-piracy operation with NATO and the EU off the Horn of Africa, reported UNN on Friday, citing Ukraine’s Defense Ministry. On February 26, after crossing the Suez Canal, the ship entered the Mediterranean Sea and was expected to be in Sevastopol in early March.
Otherwise they are just parroting the first source which could be complete crap. Its why you don't see many major news agencies (BBC, Al Jazeera, even CNN) running with stories till they can confirm it themselves or confirm it through their trusted partners. They might not be the first to break a story but when they do break it you can be pretty damn sure that the event haws happened and isn't just a rumor or something. Not swaying that this is this case here but its a good idea to keep an open mind when reading news, especially when only a subset of the media is reporting it at the time.

People will post what they want.
