Google's browser Chrome overtook Firefox for the first time globally on a monthly basis in November, according to StatCounter, the free website analytics company. The firm's research arm StatCounter Global Stats reports that Chrome took 25.69% of the worldwide market (up from 4.66% in November 2009) compared to Firefox's 25.23%. Microsoft's Internet Explorer still maintains a strong lead globally with 40.63%.
"We can look forward to a fascinating battle between Microsoft and Google as the pace of growth of Chrome suggests that it will become a real rival to Internet Explorer globally," commented Aodhan Cullen, CEO, StatCounter. "Our stats measure actual browser usage, not downloads, so while Chrome has been highly effective in ensuring downloads our stats show that people are actually using it to access the web also."
In the US Internet Explorer continues to perform strongly and is maintaining market share at 50.66%, up slightly from 50.24% year on year. Firefox retains second place on 20.09%, down from 26.75%. Chrome is up to 17.3% from 10.89%. Safari is on 10.76% from 10.71%.
In the UK, Internet Explorer also leads the market with 42.82%. Chrome is on 24.82%, having overtaken Firefox (20.56%) in July. (For other individual country or regional analysis see StatCounter Global Stats).
The only reason I don't use chrome instead of firefox is because I can't be arsed to remake all of my toolbar shortcuts. Also I don't like having the tabs at the top instead of the bottom.
I just find using Chrome to be an uncomfortable experience overall.
Now if only that IE share drops and Chrome takes over the market!
I rather retain my addon's and personal settings I've came to know and enjoy on my firefox.
Firefox sounds warm and friendly. I'll stick with that.
I don't really like chrome myself. It just feels weird to me. The way it handles everything is just eh.
Chrome is not available for Irix, so fuck that.
I switched from Chrome to Firefox earlier this year, I used to hate Firefox due to slow startup but once they fixed it, it just grew upon me.
I love Chrome, it's insanely fast.
Well I'm already only using Chrome on my laptop, and I'm strongly considering doing the same with my desktop when formatting next time.
Firefox has simply just lost it's edge against chrome, so Mozilla better come up with something truly innovating or they're gonna be the next IE.
Chrome is a "cleaner" and more simplified ( in my personal opinion ) browser. Also webkit.
Nobody's asking you guys to switch to chrome wtf.
Just so long as IE is going away people can use whatever they like. Except sparkbrowser.
My experience with Chrome is that a major, if unspoken, selling point behind it is that it is rather idiotproof.

I do have Chrome installed as a backup browser, but use Firefox as my primary. I've got FF customized just the way I like it, and as far as I'm concerned the speed difference is a moot point on my questionable connection.
I really don't think there's any major problems with any of the browsers now, even IE9 is okay
Silly Chrome and it's individual private memory sets for each tab!

This is how.

Heh, in my country it's far from overtaking Firefox. The best thing is, only 28% use IE in Germany.
Whatever, it's good that IE is losing its share.
You'd be surprized how many IE users call IE "the Internet"
I like chrome, only reason I really have Firefox left on my home P.C is for websites that don't work for chorme. And when I switched over, I found that most Firefox add-ons have chrome counterparts.
I'm on a school computer right now, that's why I'm using I.E, we have all the I.Es back to 3.0, but no chrome/firefox. :v:
Nice to see most of the new users seemingly to be from IE and not from Firefox.
Silly Chrome and it's individual private memory sets for each tab!
But I like that.
IF a tab or addon suddenly causes a memory leak or goes hogwild with my processor, then I just open Windows Task Manager and kill that individual process.
Back with Firefox I had to kill my whole browser session.
Granted it clutters up the Task Manager, but it does actually make sense.

I use Chrome on my laptop since Firefox is such a resource hog. I'd use Internet Explorer (it's always been far faster on my desktop PCs than any of the other browsers), but AFAIK, Internet Explorer is still lacking in security.
I will sum most of the comments that don't want to use chrome - "I DON"T WANNA SWITCH IT FEELS WEIRD AND DON"T WANT CHANGE IN MY LIFE MOMMA TOLD ME IT"S BAD SO I WON"T."
On a serious note, It annoys the fuck out of me when people deny credibility from something that's genuinely, in my eyes (and they're pretty objective when it comes to browsers), really really good.
It reminds me of the insane amount of people that write stupid status all over facebook regarding how stuff moved from left to right and start crying about it. Since when, did people ever accept change easily? The saying "if it works, then why change it?" exists, sorry, was created, in order for that kind of people to still be able to have a say in this.
I switched to Chrome when something started to leak and hogged like 1.4 gb memory. I tried to use Firefox again but it just seemed so slow compared to Chrome.
Don't know how it is now though. Last time I tested Firefox was on my Linux computer and it was shitslow.

i still say 'open the internet' when i want someone to open the browser :(
[editline]1st December 2011[/editline]
its a habbit since dial up
I've found that Chrome is much much faster for me and the simplied but just as useful interface works well
I'll stick with firefox because there really isn't a difference between Chrome and Firefox beyond the Google brand name :v:
