A six-year-old US girl says she forgives the shark that attacked her and seriously damaged her leg while she was swimming in shallow water. Lucy Mangum was playing on her boogie board in less than half a metre of water off Ocracoke Island, North Carolina, when she was bitten, TV station WRAL reported. The blacktip shark bit her twice on her right leg, exposing tendons and muscle, but Lucy holds no grudges against the beast. "He didn't really mean to do it," she told reporters. "I don't care that the shark bit me — I forgive him. "But I like dolphins way better." Her father Craig, an emergency room doctor, wrapped her leg in a T-shirt as they waited for a helicopter to take them to hospital. "She was talking to me and actually asking questions right after it happened, so I knew she would be OK," Dr Mangum said. "She's a strong little spirit, and this proves that." Lucy suffered severe injuries to her calf muscles, Achilles tendon and other tendons, but doctors expect her to make a full recovery.
Source: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8277757/girl-6-forgives-shark-that-bit-her
If my 6 year old sister was bit by a shark she would lose her mind.
My sister would lose her mind the moment she saw it. [editline]27th July 2011[/editline]
If my 6 year old sister was bit by a shark she would lose her mind.
Because the shark would bite her head off?
Less than a meter of water? Wow, that's terrible luck.
I wish all children were like her, then maybe the environment would have a fighting chance.
What was the shark's response?
"But I like dolphins way better."
I thought she would have more of a bone to chew with that shark :suicide:
"He didn't really mean to do it,"
dont be so naive, sure the shark didnt mean to swim to shore and bite ur leg. shes lucky her leg will end up with a scar rather than losing it.
I thought she would have more of a bone to chew with that shark :suicide:
Maybe she was too bone-idle.
"He didn't really mean to do it," she told reporters.
No I'm pretty sure the shark did in fact mean to bite her leg.
No I'm pretty sure the shark did in fact mean to bite her leg.
Not to bite her leg, but a seal's.
-snip- Nvm didn't read
That girl is a champ !
I thought she would have more of a bone to chew with that shark :suicide:

Maybe she was too bone-idle.
Hngnghhgh. Holy god I think reading those physically hurt me, lmfao, MY HAT GOES OFF TO YOU .
No I'm pretty sure the shark did in fact mean to bite her leg.
Sharks don't usually attack humans: when they do, it's because they mistook it for something else. Can't blame them, human flesh is awful if not cooked properly,
Can't blame them, human flesh is awful if not cooked properly,
Good to know.
Can't blame them, human flesh is awful if not cooked properly
uhm, okay.
Sharks don't usually attack humans: when they do, it's because they mistook it for something else. Can't blame them, human flesh is awful if not cooked properly,
you would know. :v:
dont be so naive, sure the shark didnt mean to swim to shore and bite ur leg. shes lucky her leg will end up with a scar rather than losing it.
She was on a board, humans on boards commonly get mistaken for seals by sharks. A shark wouldn't go out of it's way to attack a human unless provoked.
Sharks don't usually attack humans: when they do, it's because they mistook it for something else.
Yep, they attack people when they confuse them with seals: A person standing horizontally over a surf board looks pretty much like a seal (the two arms for swimming, the surfboard resembling a long body and the feet that stand outside it and look like the seal's posterior limbs), this is why they normally attack surfers Damn
I wish all children were like her, then maybe the environment would have a fighting chance.
It's not like it's our children that are ruining the enviroment.
"He didn't really mean to do it," she told reporters. "I don't care that the shark bit me — I forgive him. "But I like dolphins way better."
I love this mindset that children sometimes have, it's like they live in their own happy little world.
"He didn't really mean to do it," she told reporters.
"She just swam into my mouth, guys. I swear."
Sharks don't usually attack humans: when they do, it's because they mistook it for something else. Can't blame them, human flesh is awful if not cooked properly,
True but at the same time the neurosis isn't really worth testing that out
I love this mindset that children sometimes have, it's like they live in their own happy little world.
Or, you know, maybe she's actually got a more rounder grasp on what happened than you do. Seems like she was on a board, humans on boards often get mistaken for Seals by Sharks.

Would be funny if she got bitten by a dolphin next week.
She doesn't care. "Dolphins are fags anyway," she told reporters. "They're not even fish."

The thing is, just because of instinct, people want to kill all of an amazing species, just because of one incident. •More New Yorkers bite people than sharks •Only a tiny fraction of people attacked by sharks die. •And this: [editline]27th July 2011[/editline] Now, I don't see a big rush to exterminate all toasters in the world, do I?
Ok I did not expect that at all.
this would be an excellent point if it weren't for the fact that black tips don't eat seals.
Touché, but even then, a child swimming would be easy (to the senses that Sharks have) to mistake for a small shoal of fish. The point stands.
"But I like dolphins way better."
Wow that's like being attacked by a black guy and then forgiving him but saying that you like white people better What a speciesist
