Crytek's Xbox One launch title Ryse: Son of Rome will include micro-transactions within the game's multiplayer mode.
Players will upgrade their multiplayer characters via blind booster packs of armour upgrades, bought via in-game coins.
You'll accumulate this currency naturally, but can pay for more with real-world money, Microsoft told Videogamer at Gamescom 2013 today.
"We wanted to make it as bad as possible" -Crytek PR 2013
Not an issue, if you can accumulate more coins without paying, then that's just fine. If you're an impatient or lazy person, then you could pay real world money for those items, same principle as the Mann Co. store in TF2.
and Ryse will fall.
Provided it's done correctly as stated in the post above
Before anyone freaks out, this sounds exactly like what Mass Effect 3 did and that worked out okay. I still think Ryse looks awful, but these microtransactions seem fully optional.
Well, it's definitely a good thing that micro transactions are making their way onto consoles, even if this specific implementation is kinda shit
Edit: To clarify, I only like cosmetic micros

i bet you get like one coin per day

I firmly believe that the idea of microtransactions in a game that has an upfront price or a paid subscription is a dumb goddamn idea, but I guess if it works and people don't mind...
It just shows how money desperate the industry currently is, which is justifiable because of tighter deadlines, higher workloads, more competition, and gaming's movement to the mainstream (but it's still not okay).
what are you doing crytek you're ruining games
Ryse looks alright in terms of graphics, but i'm not a fan the of the quick-actions and stuff. I'll wait on a review before I purchase.

Not if getting them is ridiculously slow.
Damn Crytek what up
Like Crytek damn what happened
Press X to win: the game
Ryse is a Kinect game hastily altered to remove the Kinect controls, and it shows.
sounds like Mass Effect 3 MP

microtransactions are never good unless they have no real effect on the game (i.e. cosmetics)

I don't mind customization options in a paid for game, and I'd be happy if micro transactions like that were added to CoD or Battlefield, but giving actual gameplay benefits in a game you already paid for is a dick move
And to think the same people made Far Cry and Crysis.
What a fall from grace.
You dont even have to click the corresponding button to do the quicktime events, it just awards you more points if you do.

They haven't made a single notably good game since Crysis: Warhead, it's pretty sad.

Their tech is pretty good, but they can't make games for shit and it's been getting worse lately.
isnt this the game where if u fuck up the qte it still makes it because the devs didn't want the players to feel bad

"Alright" Graphics alone is a shitty reason to buy a game though

and that's all it has
at all

I liked Mass Effect 3 MP's system, if a little too simple for my tastes.

People not minding the steaming pile of shit on the floor doesn't change what the shit is.
I didn't think they could transplant the tedium of a grey-brown modern military FPS into a different setting, but it looks like they actually managed to pull it off.
It's like watching a car crash in slow motion.
Hasn't Rome been sacked enough?
top lel
This game is everything that's wrong with the industry embodied into a $60 QTE.
I really wish this game wasn't such a QTE fest. I've always wanted a thirdperson Roman warfare game, but one you have to actually play.

I'm not a fan of Romans having goddamn British accents.
It's so fucking wrong!

it'd be worse if they were Russians with American and British accents
or Japanese with Spanish accents oh god the horror
