Hello Guys, yesterday I've got my new camera, a Nikon D5100. After charging the battery and studieng the short-manual I went outside and took some pictures. I've read a lot of stuff about photography before and loved to take pictures with my compact camera. Well, having a real DSLR camera is something else. So, this are the pictures. Some with automatic settings, some without. Please leave suggestions, critism and so on! http://www.flickr.com/photos/63665754@N06/with/5796416022/ Thanks ;)
In my opinion they all look pretty flat and boring. It looks like you live in a fairly interesting place though, in some of the photos I can see a river, try to catch the reflections in that. In other you have shots of the streets, try to get photos of the people on the streets. For the most part your photos are subject-less witch makes them incredibly boring to look at. You need a clinching part of the photo that will draw the viewers eye in, with the background only being used to provide additional context.
Basically... I can't photograph citizens in the street here... their must be at least 7 persons until you are allowed to do that without their permission... :( But I'll try to sort that out in future pictures :) Thanks alot for your opinion!
wut. I just read this http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1018&message=38533784&changemode=1 and it seems that if you are doing it the name of art and portraying contemporary history 9which you can sure as hell claim you are) you are well within your rights to do so. laws are very often in the favour of a not-dodgy (see: voyeuristic) photographer.
Alright thanks. Well, I guess, that means as long as I don't sell the Images I can do it?
I think a few of your shots are close, but not quite there. You just need to learn to focus and draw the viewer into what you really want them to see and get out of the picture. Read up on photography.
Sorry that this is a late bump, but I thought I'd toss in my CC. Basically your images don't "pop" too well. I can see where you're putting in the effort to try and take photos of something interesting, but there needs to be you need to open your third eye essentially. What I'm trying to say is, you need to train your eye to pull apart the background and find great subject matter. For example: In this photo the power line really distracts the viewer from the clock-tower you were trying to make the subject. Another issue is that the actual clock-tower building isn't in frame, and with subjects like these it helps to get the full building at an angle that makes it seem more daunting as you will. This is an example of what I mean
