I'm kind of morally conflicted about this because on one hand I love dogs and on the other they are raised as food like the beef, chicken and pork I eat.
[T][/T]I've eaten dog before, it's really lean, but it's alright. If I had a choice I wouldn't choose to have it but if I had to, like I was at someone's house and they served it, I wouldn't mind having it again.
I wonder if different dogs have different tastes.
for one, i'm ok with eating dog(and other animals) as long as they're raised for that purpose
i'd feel fucking horrified if i knew i was eating a dog that was someone's pet or was a stray(who knows what kind of diseases they might be harboring?)

Nasty documentary on channel 4 the other day about these Vietnamese thieves who bolt cut dog chains and steal peoples pets. Was pretty hard to watch because they don't even pick it up, they drag it behind a motorcycle as they drive away. They didn't hold back on any of the footage either, you see them cut the dogs throat and let it bleed to death.
Was gross.
But most dogs that are eaten in countries like china and Vietnam are bred and raised like livestock.
There is no justification for eating people's pets. Fuck these people. For anyone who is honestly raising these animals as livestock, alright. It's no different than beef or chicken but stealing people's pets in vans is wrong and it's bound to happen due to people keeping dogs as pets and raising livestock is expensive.
There is no justification for eating people's pets. Fuck these people.
If you watch the part 2 of the video, one family owns a dog which serves partly as a pet, but mainly as a backup source of food if the festival doesn't get enough dogs to cook.
While it is disgusting to abduct random dogs in the hopes that nobody misses them, some owners still sell their dogs to be used as food.

implying all dogs (and/or cats) are automatically pets?
not all of them are peoples pets though
And if properly regulated and the animals are killed with the minimum amount of pain possible, I'm fine with it. But like the woman says in the video, there's no proof whether they're pets or not and it doesn't make sense for the meat to be cheap if they're "being raised on farms". The reason chicken and beef is so expensive is due to the cost of raising the livestock. It's quite telling that no one will answer the woman's question when it comes to the "farm".

Never said that. Watch the video, you can see dogs that are clearly pets and I'd imagine that van stealing the dog outside someone's home is quite common considering that the meat is being sold for so little.
The entire "festival" is shady. Look at the protest and how these teens are getting in people's faces and disrupting the protest. That screams of third party intervention and I have a feeling they're connected to the sellers either through family or they're just hired provocateurs.

Literally the next line in that post

Bad reading please?

"There is no justification for eating people's pets. Fuck these people." Still doesn't imply that all dogs = pets.

if you think that's fucked up

It was shown briefly in the video but that's the whole story.
The problem I have with this is how probably horribly unclean and inhumane the process goes, just like most animals.
Probably wouldn't stop me from trying, I mean I eat meat all the time so it'd be incredibly hypocrite to suddenly disagree with this unless they put the head or the paws in the plate, it bothers me a lot for some reason although that's regardless of the animal.
I know it's hypocritical to say because I eat other forms of meat, but this just really bothers me. I, personally, just couldn't eat something I see as a house pet. Cultures, I guess.
i think it's the way you can really see how sad the dogs are and how much intellectual potential they have that really turns my stomach about this, the fact that people raise them both as pets and as food is pretty weird too, you'd think it would be one or the other, i guess like some people have said, cultures.

Eating dogs is slightly less bothering than all the fast-food and other crap we pour down our gullets.
very helpful for them to specify which city this is
not. there's two yulins in china, one is in guangxi, which is a shit hole and the other is in shanbei, which is less of a shit hole but still one.
you won't see this kind of thing anywhere near the major cities, which these are not.

it was marked on a map? it's guangxi
besides i don't see how it matters
it matters because not all places in china are shitholes and i don't like people making generalisations and assumptions about the country i'm from
Well, it'll be much better if it was regulated, then this way, people's pets don't get taken, and less cases of diseases.
i wonder if dogs can get ebola

I love pigs and would love to have one as a pet and it doesn't stop me from eating pork.

I know a lot of people would just watch the video and think this is something normal that happens all across China but people with an IQ above 5 would realize that the video esplicitly says that this is a tradition almost exclusive to just this region of the country. So like you said, don't generalize and think all people see this is as something that happens all over China.
I love pigs and would love to have one as a pet and it doesn't stop me from eating pork.
My "rule" is simple: I don't eat the same kind that I have as a pet.
I stopped eating catfish once I had my pet catfish for a long time.
I won't eat chicken if I own them, I won't eat pork if I own a pig, etc. etc.

I think that's kinda retarded. Not that you should eat dog where you're from but still.
