Fighting broke out between the youths as they were led away.
Only one of them had stabbed Nicholas Pearton and the others complained they had been wrongly convicted of murder and manslaughter.
But Judge Anthony Morris said they had all taken part in ‘a terrifying example of gang violence’. He lifted an order banning their identities.
Dale Green and Lamarr Gordon, both 17, and Joseph Appiah, 16, were given life terms for murder. They were ordered to be detained at Her Majesty’s pleasure with a minimum 15 years for Green, identified as doing the stabbing, 14 years for Gordon and 12 years for Appiah.

All the defendants were from south-east London. Four others were convicted of manslaughter – Terell Clement, 18, was jailed for ten years, Claude Gaha, 17, and Demar Brown, 16, were given eight years and Edward Conteh, 17, was given seven years. Gordon’s older brother, Sheldon Gordon, 23, of Bromley, was given a 12-month suspended sentence for perverting justice in hiding blood-stained clothes.
Nicholas died in May last year after being hunted down by the mob, members of the Shanks & Guns gang. They were rivals of the Black Mafia group, also known as the Sydenham Boys, which Nicholas knew people in.
As they made off on buses, Lamarr Gordon was seen shaking Green’s hand, congratulating him on what he had done.
Judge Morris said: ‘The chasing group were like a pack of wild dogs chasing its prey.’ Vincent Pearton, Nicholas’s father, said in a statement: ‘Our loss and the accompanying feelings of emptiness are an inescapable daily torment for us.’

Coincidentally there are more impoverished minorities than whites, but I'll forgive your ignorance because it's shit like your statement that eventually leads up to actions like this.
Anyway, back to OP. Life for 16-year-olds seems harsh; I know they stabbed the kid to death, but I can almost guarantee you that a group of white youths of the same age would not be given life in prison for the same crime. In fact, I'd be willing to bet they would be tried in juvenile court rather than criminal court.
It's still tragic that this happened, I won't argue that. But with an incarceration system that tends to skip the "rehabilitation" part, I really feel like life for a 16-year-old boy is way too much ... especially when crimes like this in youths are more a reflection of societal problems and pressures on youth rather than the acts of sadistic minds.
