http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-21313384
Iran says it welcomes a US offer of bilateral nuclear talks, but wants the US to show an "authentic... fair and real intention to resolve the issue". Foreign Minister Ali Akhbar Salehi said the US should stop threats to take action against Iran as it offers talks. He was speaking at a security conference in Germany a day after Vice-President Joe Biden told the gathering Iran had to be "serious" on the issue. International talks on Iran's nuclear programme are due later this month. Iran is under an array of UN-imposed sanctions. Western countries suspect it wants to develop nuclear weapons, but Tehran says its nuclear programme is for energy generation and research. Three days ago, the US warned Iran that its plans to upgrade uranium enrichment centrifuges at the Natanz plant would be a "further escalation" of the stand-off.
"authentic... fair and real intention to resolve the issue". ha like we are gonna do that.

we have been everything but fair to iran since we launched a fucking coup on their government. iran isn't allowed to have nuclear power or nuclear weaponry even though the west is allowed to be armed to the teeth and have complete sovereignty over their own energy production.

Besides, Iran isn't the most stable place to have nuclear weapons. If some extremist group manages to get their hands on them, we're fucked. But more to the point, I'm optimistic about this and hope diplomatic relations will help ease tensions between our two nations.

[editline]4th February 2013[/editline] i mean israel quite possibly has a nuclear program with nuclear weapons and is much less stable than iran. why are they allowed nuclear weapons?

People are absolutely terrified of their own government, you call that stable? At least people in Israel can vote for their government, and are relatively free. edit: Also there's no "quite possibly" about it, Israel definitely has a nuclear program, weaponized and all.
The US is almost solely responsible for Iran's current state. The post-WW2 US government went totally out of it's way to irreparably damage foreign relations with the Iranian people in an attempt to turn Iran into a pro-US monarchy. If they hadn't done that, maybe Iran would be better than it is now. As such any "peace talk" that doesn't involve total nuclear disarmament of the entire world, is just a transparent sham in order to ensure that Iran stays strategically weak, and Iran knows that. It requires an absolutely absurd volume of hubris for the US to talk down to Iran, scolding them for trying to make nuclear weapons, while the US still holds enough nuclear arms to reduce Iran to a smoking crater, how could anybody regard that as a climate for serious peace talks? The situation is not going to progress until one way or another, Iran feels comfortable enough to sit down for real peace talks. At this rate, with the current relations atmosphere, that's not going to happen until Iran has nuclear weapons.
Israel won't let this happen. They want Iran dead too much.
