• Kicking a band member. How should we do it?

We're a group of friends who started a band about a month ago. The thing is that one of the bandmembers have been acting negative lately and doesn't want to play the music the rest of the band wants to play. We're thinking about kicking him, but we still want to be his friend. How should we approach this problem? Anybody got any experience about these kind of things?
:trying to resist a "kick him literally" joke: Maybe just try talking with him about how he's been acting like an ass? [editline]11:08AM[/editline] Say "if you don't like it get a solo career"
i got kick out my band :( i was a bit lazy tho Just try and make them work it out them self.
Tell him to play and be happy or get the fuck out.
Tell him that his attitude is holding you back, and you need to resolve it, 2 options, buck up your idea or get out.
"if you don't want to play what everyone else wants to play, then go play with some one else" if he doesn't get it he shouldn't be your friend
Say something like, "Don't take this personally but if you don't want to play our music, I don't think you should be in the band".
Just say, "shitface, your out the band."
Just say, "fuck you whoreface, you're out of the band."
Fixed.
Tell me, what type of music does your band want to play, and what music does he want to play?

See what accommodations you can make. If that isn't good enough, tell him he's got to go.
Is it Jack Black?
What does he want to play? There might be some interesting ideas there.
Thanks for tips and advices. He wants to play plain old-school rock and allmost nothing else. We want to go in a more hardrock/metall direction. But the problem is that he hates metall and stuff like that so he doesn't want to play any of it. Also he insists on doing the vocals and he sucks at singing, eventhough he allways snags the mic. PS: when I'm talking about metall I'm not talking about heavy metall or any of that stuff, it's more like trash/prog metall PPS: He's a guy.
kill him
my band had a guy who sucked balls at singing, we eventually just told him his voice wasn't good enough. Just do something like that, but be nice about it. Failing that, just kill him. EDIT: Fucking 09'ers and their ninjas!
Compromise. Seriously, just try. Edit: People who disagree have never been in a band before.

PS: progressive metal is a subgenre of heavy metal, and thrash metal is a more extreme subgenre of heavy metal. PPS: I don't think you know what the fuck you're talking about.
Just stop telling him when practices are. :v: - The proper way to kick people out of a band.
Just stop telling him when practices are. :v: - The proper way to kick people out of a band.
Also do this. Though if he asks, you may be hard pressed to think of a believable lie. :v:
Stop telling him when practices are, and when he asks, tell him your caught up in some shit, and you have no time on your hands, or you can be upfront and tell him that you guys think he shouldn't be in the band anymore, it's pretty simple...
man we had to do the same thing basically just stop inviting him to practices and shit, he'll get the point
Stab him in the stomach and throw him into the crowd at your next gig.
Wear boots, and then literally kick them
Stab him in the stomach and throw him into the crowd at your next gig.
Don't forgot to slit his throat too, and make sure you wear corpse paint and chain mail as well...
If you're an op, use /kick #band Member3
Metal has one l. Thrash is spelled with two h's.

I liked reggae, and ska music when they started playing stuff like Nirvana. I no longer wanted to be in the band anyhow, but they just said "Dude, you're a great musician, and you're a great friend, but we don't like to play the same type of music. We can still jam and stuff, but as a band this isn't working out. We like two different styles, so we need someone who's more into this style then you are" Worked fine with very low amount of hard feelings.
Thanks again for great tips and advices. And I'm EXTREMELY sorry for misspelling "thrash" and "metal", but I'm not from an englishspeaking country so I blame it on my parents. And of course I know that thrash and prog both are subgenres of heavy metal. I wrote that so that people would know that we're not into soft metal like heavy metal is. We don't want to play Iron Maiden or stuff like that. I was thinking about playing technical death metal like Gojira or something, but the other two thaught it was a bit extreme so we are going to play something more thrashy.
