Donald Trump's campaign reached out to Ohio Gov. John Kasich in May with an offer to make him the "most powerful vice president in history," The New York Times reported Tuesday.
Trump's oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., reached out to a Kasich adviser after the Ohio governor ended his own Republican presidential campaign, promising that if he accepted the vice presidency, Kasich would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy.
The adviser asked what Trump would be in charge of, the report said, and Trump Jr. responded: "Making America great again."
The NYT report says that the Trump camp considered Kasich the "perfect" VP choice but unfortunately he told them to fuck off. It also goes into lots of detail on how they narrowed it down to Pence.
The fact that he tried to entice him with 'power' is vomit-inducing
it sounds like trump doesn't actually want to run the country and was trying to offload it onto kasich.
So does that mean he's now intending for Mike Pence to be in charge of domestic and foreign policy? No thank you.
So, Trump is going to be President in name only, Pence is going to control the country most.

It makes sense, this is Trump's plan if he "Accidentally" wins. Still think he doesn't want to win.
I liked Kasich. If Trump wasn't running I would've voted for him.

I think the fact that Kasich told Trump to basically fuck off is respectable even with that kind of offer.

Trump: John, you do not yet realize your importance. You've only begun to discover your power! Join me, and I will complete your training! With our combined strength, we can end this presidential race, and make America great again!
Kasich: I'll never join you!
Trump: If only you knew the power of nationalism. Your fellow candidates never told you what happened to the Republican party.
Kasich: They told me enough, they told me you killed it!
Trump: No, I am the Republican Party.
Kasich: No! That's not true! That's impossible!
Trump: Join me, and together we can rule America as President and VP!
-Kasich drops out of the race-
That's how it went in my head at least.

This is actually perfect. Thank you
Why did you turn him down, Kasich? I understand you don't like Trump, but you could have at least taken the position for damage control. Now we have a Bible-Thumper as VP pick for a man who very well may become President of the United States. We just got marriage and military service extended to gays, and now it's at risk already. Kasich could have prevented that if he agreed to run with Trump.

Marriage is at risk, they wouldn't touch the military one.
I dug out an old Article, Huffington Post Interviewed Paul Manafort Back in May.
“He needs an experienced person to do the part of the job he doesn’t want to do,” Manafort said in reference to Trump. “He sees himself more as the chairman of the board, than even the CEO, let alone the COO.”
Marriage isn't really at risk either, to be fair. The president cannot overturn Supreme Court rulings.

No, but the president can appoint new Supreme Court Justices that wouldn't be so fair on gay marriage, of which we have quite a few vacant slots coming up.
Yeah, very true. Just the same, I don't see the marriage equality ruling ever being overturned. Opposition to LGBT community has been shrinking pretty rapidly in the last decade. Give it until our next election cycle, and I doubt it will even be part of the GOP's party platform anymore.
I was really hoping Kasich would be the nominee. He seemed like the only one with any sense and stability out of them all.
Unfortunately, these primaries were about who can talk the loudest, not who can talk the most reasonable. I saw in an interview someone asked Kasich why he was still in the race even though he wasn't getting a lot of votes or winning any states. He said something along the lines that it takes a while to get your message across when you don't play into the personal attacks/other things candidates do to get media attention.
