I'm currently doing a research paper on how female game characters are represented and I was wondering how people actually feel about female game characters.
Have they actually changed over the years or are we still looking at something that appeals to the male gaze?
Are the stereotypical ideologies of women being put into console and computer games or are we looking at more equal rights.
Is it laura croft, or "dead of alive", extreme beach volley ball is more of the question simply.
They're designed for lonely guys like me to fap too, whats so complicated about that? The gaming community likes fappable video game women, get over it.
My brothers excuse for always choosing a female character whenever possible was:
"I don't want to stare at a guys ass all day"
Fair enough.

Is it really that strange that I'm not collecting Alyx Vance paper figurines?
it depends on the character in question
if it's like Tifa from FF then yeah it's sexist
if it's like Alyx from HL or Ellie from DS2 then no not really
I think that female game characters usually are sexist to an extent, but at the same time look at male game characters. 95% have bulging muscles and are usually moderately attractive.
And no, I'm not gay.
would you rather a female character wearing a turtle neck with bell bottoms. Or a full 19th century dress? Their appearance appeals to the consumer. But I do admit, I feel the MK 9 female characters could be a little less revealing.

Optimistic or Agree?!?!??! :psyduck:
Well considering the main demographic of games is a male audience, catering to them would obviously be a better idea. I wouldn't call it sexist really.
If there's some hot, half naked woman in a game, it was put there because the game designer wanted to have a hot, half naked woman in there. Hot, half naked women exist in real life, and so do ugly, fully dressed women.
Recreating one in-game isn't sexist because you didn't include both, or have average looking women.

In a game, the player is supposed to be the stronger person, aren't they?
Well, It all depends on the developer of the game that makes them, They could be as normal as women we see by the day (Such as Alyx! as mentioned earlier.) Or they could be gorified into such characters that appear half-naked wearing a sword and swinging everywhere with the agility and dexterity of a hummingbirds wings and when a sword or something that should've fucking ripped them in half it just leaves a scratch.

What? That would be a completely different level of lonely.

hnnnnng
Well, Alyx Vance in HL2 is a good example of a normal female: no overexaggerated boobs or clothing that couldn't protect a stick.
I find average looking women in games alot more attractive than women which seem to be trying to be sexy.
If they look like the creator desperately wanted a sexy woman in a game, with giant breasts and such, its more of a turn off than anything.

I agree.
They are no more sexist than how actresses are portrayed and how women are portrayed in print ads.
Although I think I'm missing the point to your question...

If it's a game like DoA, then it's not necessarily sexist, it just shows a very unrealistic portrayal of women.
Twilight shows a very unrealistic stereotype of men, that doesn't mean it's necessarily sexist.
Yeah, I think that women in many mainstream video games are created to appeal to male players- definitely sexist and stereotypical. Same thing with male characters, minority characters, etc.. It's also not something to take lightly, since it has a pretty large effect on influencing the individuals who play those certain games and serves to reinforce typical sexist beliefs; much like TV media also affects people. It also does not help the public's perception towards video-games of that kind. I know I sound like a feminist or something, and I'm not advocating the complete destruction of these games or trying to advocate that we boycott or anything, but that's the truth.
Depicting a beautiful woman in a video game is sexist? what?
Depicting a beautiful woman in a video game is sexist? what?
The OP is trying to say that the game over-sexualizes characters by giving them skimpy armor and huge tits, but somehow getting impaled with a spearhead does only a bruise to them.
Not portraying a beautiful woman.
Depicting a beautiful woman in a video game is sexist? what?
No. Depicting a woman in a steretypical manner (i.e a lustful whore who has exaggerated features) with the main and obvious purpose of attracting male/whatever gamers is sexist.

I thought he was asking a yes/no question about our opinions for a research paper...?
