Westworld: What makes Anthony Hopkins great (in Westworld) - General

[hd]https://youtu.be/4kSGkGKwp9U[/hd] Those who haven't tried Westworld but are curious, i highly recommend watching episode 1 before giving judgement since the trailer and teaser of the series just doesn't give a good picture of what the series is about.

Can't recommend this show enough.

I honestly feel this show has gone downhill and that Hopkins has been horribly underused, he's essentially just trotted out to spout some pretentious dialogue every so often and thats about it. That and it's clear HBO just wants to make porn with a plot.

That and it's clear HBO just wants to make porn with a plot.[/QUOTE] There is always someone who would say this to any TV show, anyway HBO always had its share of strengths and weaknesses with the biggest strength coming from creative freedom and money but they usually walk the same or existing plot line of another show, in this case i got Lost vibes. The first episode (1-4) are more or less intro episodes to what the series really is about so if they keep their word we can expect more drive in the upcoming shows. As for titties and dicks, at least in this show it would make sense since it would show how we would treat people with the knowledge that it is fake anyway which is either very sexual or brutal, it is better then Game of Thrones random boobs and dicks presentation

Or some Spartacus Blood and Sand-tier show. If you're not seeing the deeper conversation about consciousness in the show then you're missing 90% of what makes it good.

Shows are just run by different people with different directives and motives and they get handled by a lot of people, most episodes of shows get their own directors and that changes the nature of every show as well. Shows generally do meander in quality, they get better or worse depending on the viewer and the audience but shows that maintain a theme and a general tone, like this one, or Breaking Bad, or some of my other favourite shows, they maintain higher quality by staying true to the exploration of an idea or ideal. For me with Westworld, it's a great show about the idea of emergent consciousness, it's an exploration of the dark side of people that they willfully expose under these conditions and lastly it's the concept of money ruining expression. If the show sticks with those themes as strongly as it has in it's first episodes, I doubt I'll really be let down by any one episode enough to really be disappointed with the show as a whole.

Their shows always seem to follow this forumla, which is a shame since I was hoping Westworld would be better, it certainly has it's moments but the HBOness of it hurts it.

There is a point where having tits, dicks and boobs in your scenes no longer adds anything of value, and I think HBO far surpasses that point too frequently. It's getting to the point where it basically is like "Hey, look! Body parts? Aren't we so mature?" every 5 minutes and it's too much. That said, everything else about this show is amazing. I'm hooked. Hopkin's portrayal of Ford is great, and this video is a great analysis of that.

Nerdwriter needs to do more videos like this. Usually they are so hit and miss; with about half being shallow pretentious garbage and the other half being genuinely insightful
