Chicago hit a record low for January 6 with a -16 degrees at O'Hare Airport. And it could get even colder, according to Eyewitness News meteorologist Tracy Butler. The entire Chicago area is under a wind chill warning. Wind chills during that period are forecast to dip between -20 and -45 degrees.
In Indiana, a state of emergency was declared Sunday night, and remains in effect "until further notice." Only emergency vehicles are permitted out after blizzard-like conditions trapped vehicles and closed some Indiana expressways.
Except it'll only last about a Day and a half I hear. Then it'll get a bit warmer.

The day and a half after tomorrow?
And Earth continues to struggle with all this displaced energy in the climate, hopefully it'll all level out and Australia won't become the Sahara while we don't become Antarctica.
Updated the OP with a picture of the city and Lake.
How about next year?
Probably a regular winter or another winter with little to no snow.
The usual usual.
Several feet of snow here in Michigan, cars can't go anywhere. You get stuck trying to pull out of a driveway.

Woooow. I knew Michigan could get some ice on it but that's ridiculous.
A bad time to have my bed up against the outer wall of the building.
I'm sleeping on the floor from now on.
It's even offensively cold in the gulf south. I have on winter gear I haven't used in years. At least this weather is low humidity; it'd be a killer if it was our standard wet cold.
Getting the same up here in Michigan. School was cancelled today and tomorrow because wind chills are nearing -35 F. Got 16" of snow from the storm, and needless to say it was cold as hell riding the tractor around and plowing driveways.
suburbs here
It hurts like a motherfucker to breath the air outside its so cold.
I'm a couple hours south of Chicago. Currently it is -12 F, but with the wind chill it feels like -39. Today is a fun day.

Give our coldness back please
We've got +8 degrees celsius here in Norway and we're supposed to have like -20C
My house right now:

Really warm over here in SE Nebraska. Only seventeen below with wind chill. We got it going on.
Really feel for you guys that have to go outside. I haven't left the house in three days.
It's raining and somewhat warm here. Good temperature but the rain mixing with the half-melted snow doesn't make it look that good out here.
We have lots of wind in the UK. chicago if you want to swap, I would gladly take snow over my shed blowing over.
My bedroom is surrounded by three exterior walls, all wooden. Thankfully, I've got two space-heaters plugged inside of here so I'm actually pretty toasty :3
I live north of Chicago.

We got wind too, its not called the "Windy City" for nothing. I don't even want to imagine how it be right now to walk around in downtown Chicago.
it's -15 outside right now, I'm not going anywhere today. Seems like the whole state is shut down right now.
I'm on the south side of Chicago, my antenna is frozen and my internet is going haywire. Can we just get another blizzard like a couple years back?
We have lots of wind in the UK. chicago if you want to swap, I would gladly take snow over my shed blowing over.
Sure. We get wind all the time here. Wooden or not, our houses are built to survive anything short of a tornado.
Keep in mind, you won't be walking in this snow so much as wading through it.
I saw a guy playing guitar with three coats on and a pair of gloves in Saint Paul today. The guy looked like he was half dead
Suburbs of Chicago here. Haven't been outside yet today and work was cancelled today. Plus, it's actually a decent temperature in the basement (That's where my PC is).
C'mon nature, do your worse.

Not sure if you know this or not, but Chicago is nicknamed "the windy city". :v:

We are the "Windy City" after all.
Edit: Fucking beat me to it.
I cant even fathom how terrible downtown must be with that wind right now.
Dammit, Harry Dresden's up to something again.
