He claimed that in a few years people would look back and wonder what all the fuss was about, and said most of the complaints were coming from those who thought the state had a right to support them. His remarks were seen as an offensive throwback to Thatcher-era harsh rhetoric, and are bound to lead to Labour calls for his dismissal as enterprise tsar on the grounds he is totally out of touch with the squeeze on living standards almost all voters are experiencing.
Typical bourgeois attitude of "oh, the situation is okay for me and the people I know so therefore all this I hear about the working classes suffering must be a myth." Typical conservative really.

Reminds me of that Pope picture.
Well it's Labours fault he said that because they left the country in a mess!!
Well it's Labours fault he said that because they left the country in a mess!!
... really can't tell if this is sarcastic or not. [editline]19th November 2010[/editline] I hope it is.
most of the complaints were coming from those who thought the state had a right to support them.
I never understood why people think it is the governments job to help them. Worst part is the more they whine about it, the more the government does to baby them.Which makes it worse for everyone else because we pay for it.
I never understood why people think it is the governments job to help them.
because why else would there be a government if government doesn't serve to help people then why does it exist for fucking fun? isn't the queen bloody pampered enough?
Lord Young is surprisingly old.
I agree that it's a dickish thing to say and he should (at least) apologise, but it's stupid to use this as a way of attacking the Conservatives by painting them all with the same brush. All parties have dumbasses who say stupid things - should I say that John Prescott is a good representation of all of the Labour party?
Well it's Labours fault he said that because they left the country in a mess!!
They did.
because why else would there be a government if government doesn't serve to help people then why does it exist for fucking fun? isn't the queen bloody pampered enough?
Governments job is to protect the people, and manage tax flow for general infrastructural projects. Not for paying your doctors bills and making sure you eat today. That is your job as a human.
Governments job is to protect the people, and manage tax flow for general infrastructural projects. Not for paying your doctors bills and making sure you eat today. That is your job as a human.
Says who?
They did.
Yeah if they were in power instead of Labour the recession wouldn't have happened.
Yeah if they were in power instead of Labour the recession wouldn't have happened.
Quote me where I said that Labour caused the recession. Go on. Do it.
Conservatives are a bunch of idiots, remember the hug-a-hoody campaign? So totally out of touch.
Quote me where I said that Labour caused the recession. Go on. Do it.
Quote him where he said you did.
I don't really find it offensive because it really isn't bad as its made out to be with this recession.
I don't really find it offensive because it really isn't bad as its made out to be with this recession.
I hope that's a joke.
Governments job is to protect the people, and manage tax flow for general infrastructural projects. Not for paying your doctors bills and making sure you eat today. That is your job as a human.
Why can protecting the people not cover helping with medical bills? Surely that's an important duty of the government to help keep the people free of injury or disease. Unless that's not what you meant.
he failed to mention he mean's the Politicians have never had it so good what with no money worries for them or the big businesses but who give's a shit about the little guy right? the thing is you can say britain caused every problem the tories create because a lot of britain voted for the twats.
"We've never had it so good! Cutting people's benefits fuck yeah!" What a cock.
Update! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11798366 Good.
Lord Young looks like a teacher from my school.
Yeah if they were in power instead of Labour the recession wouldn't have happened.
Um... the recession is fucking global you absolute moron. No one government in one barely significant nation could have prevented the collapse of banks in America. Idiot.
Update!
Winner.
Um... the recession is fucking global you absolute moron. No one government in one barely significant nation could have prevented the collapse of banks in America. Idiot.
Not even America?
Not even America?
No. [editline]19th November 2010[/editline] Seriously you think government has the power to fully regulate and control banks and their investments and spending? You're living in a dream. This is neo-capitalism.
I did not feel much of the recession here in Sweden, to be frank.
I hear they have better living conditions in Zimbabwe.
Silly UK! You can't have socialism with rich people in power!
I dislike how the Tories are 'dealing with' the recession. They seem to be absolutely focused on cutting funding to healthcare, education and welfare and making absolutely sure the rich fucks like themselves and the people who vote for their exceedingly English party don't suffer in the slightest while the people who actually need support, particularly with the economy as it is, get the arse end of whatever they do.
