Sales for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U are all up massively year-over-year. The PlayStation 4 sold around 1.2 million units for the week, which is up from 963,588 a year ago. The Xbox One sold around 1.1 million units, up from 456,608. The Wii U sold around 300,000 units, up from 230,081. However, 3DS sales dropped to around 600,000 units, from 868,411.
Source: http://www.vgchartz.com/article/252320/playstation-4-and-xbox-one-sales-top-1-million-units-black-friday-week/
Poor WiiU. Doesn't deserve the lack of love. But fuck the 3DS that shit is so obsolete.
Interesting, I had heard reports a day or so ago suggesting the Xbox was outpacing the PS4 in sales on BF.
Poor WiiU. Doesn't deserve the lack of love. The showing that they put out was pretty weak this year.
I'm one of those lucky xbone buyers, and let me tell you it's a fuckin' dog so far. The very first thing I was presented with upon starting my very first game was a UPlay login screen, even the single player campaigns of all three games I own are inaccessible without an Xbox Live connection (two of the three will not even launch), and I get graphical artifacts everywhere from any and all games on a monitor that has run an Xbox 360 and PC in 1080p or better for the past 5 years unless I turn it down to 720p or set it to run in DVI (with no sound signal).

Return it.
I am still yet to see a single advertisement for the Wii U, or Super Smash Bros for that matter. Maybe I keep missing it, but do Nintendo really expect it to get around to their main market by word-of-mouth? I see a PS4 advert almost every time I watch the telly.
The Wii U is the Gamecube all over again, but instead of having Microsoft's system do comparatively badly, the Wii U is all on its own. I blame the touchpad. The Wii sold so well because it offered a new way to play games, but the Wii U doesn't have that because everyone already owns a touchpad device. It's too bad, the Wii U has a lot of excellent exclusive games.
and yet there are still no games
What's with people using dog as a synonym for bad/awful/etc? I've literally never seen or heard it used like this anywhere until yesterday when another FPer used it that way. [editline]1st December 2014[/editline] Nintendo tried way too hard to "innovate" and ended up shooting themselves in the foot, a touchpad controller is awful no matter how you look at it, no one wants to play with that bulky monstrosity and the poor sells prove it.
I think the touchpad is a great compromise between wanting to have a traditional controller and wanting to do something new. The problem is at this point the only useful function its had is a map screen and extra buttons. The Wii U wouldn't be selling any better with a "real" traditional controller. The thing that's holding it back is the lack of high-profile third party titles, and being underpowered.
and yet there are still no games
Just off the top of my head, Xbox One now has Titanfall, Masterchief Collection, Black Flag, GTA5, Sunset Overdrive, Shadow of Mordor and (sadly) Unity, not to mention some others like the Plants vs. Zombies game. I don't know about PS4, but the Xbox One has a decent library now.
My problem with the Wii U is the 339 controllers it seems to have, you buy an xbox you get an xbox controller, you buy a PS4 you get a PS4 controller, you buy a wii u and you can connect the gamepad, a pro controller, a wiimote, a wiimote + nunchuk, the wii classic controller, the gamecube controller adapter that only works on one game, it's confusing, but it could do with some strong third party titles (and not half assed ports) I still love it though, Smash 4 and MK8 are amazing, and I managed to get mine for a nice price on eBay
The real reason for the poor sales/lack of games is one that is going to haunt Nintendo for the entire gen: a PowerPC CPU while the two opponents are using the more-similar-to-PC x86 tech. The PS4 and Xbox One aren't monstrously more powerful (hell, they're actually aggravatingly weak compared to mid-end PCs when the higher end consoles of previous generations were easily capable of going toe-to-toe with them for gaming), it's just that they make it much easier to code games for multiple systems whereas the Wii U is all alone, tech wise. No matter what Nintendo attempts to do via patches, there is no way for them to rectify this without releasing a brand new system, and I doubt that they want to pull a Saturn and abandon it along with their consumers' trust.
Time and time again I've said this: The fact it's on a separate architecture doesn't add any difficulty to porting the game. The PS4 and Xbox One both have different rendering pipelines so porting it to the WiiU would be as difficult if not easier than porting it to any other console.

I came this close to buying an Xbone bundle for $320 at Best Buy. Came with the system and two Assassins Creed games. Honestly there just aren't enough exclusives for either system to really justify spending hundreds of dollars on them. Maybe Bloodborne for the PS4 will be amazing but I can't see myself buying a console for a Souls game.
as a pc owner there just isn't any point to buying a console, at least especially when I already am pretty happy with my wii u using the gamepad while laying down is a real treat, and it's pretty great in pikmin as well. It's mostly only really a thing for maps and menu's I've seen so far but the oppertunities are grand for sure. My biggest reason it's a treat is that for me, it's a third screen, and portable. So I can watch netflix in bed and then sleep. The gamepad itself isn't as "solid" as I would like but that's also a good thing. If it were heavy it'd be hard as piss to use. The pro controller is the best controller I've seen compared to xbox360, and the better xbone controller. It's got a pretty solid, relaxed build with proper joysticks, a great D pad, great bumper locations, a bit "wider" than I'd like but it's comforting to play and the battery life is pretty insane. I have a wii mote and have to buy the numchuck and... a... wiiremote plus? what the fuck is this? Why can't I play wii sports with my normal wii mote? the number of controllers isn't large, far from it, and the options are great, but some games flat out need you to buy new hardware. thankfully the console is inexpensive so it isn't so bad. Unless you count unneeded options, the 2 controllers you really need are the gamepad and wiimote+ and numchuck. Procontroller is good if you don't want to hold that large gamepad around. All that will cost about the same as a normal console anyways though. If you don't care about nintendo then clearly the last thing you should be buying is a wii u. But if you want some light hearted, colorful adventures it's pretty awesome and well worth it. And also if you're an old person, since gta5 and killing dead people probably won't appeal to you. One thing that really annoys me is nintendos fetish with shitty shiney plastic. literally all dirt and grim just SHOWS. I don't care how much you wash with rubbing alcohol, your hands will make prints. It's the worst.

Nintendo made it as easy as possible for people who like using whatever controller they like to use on there games. Unlike the others where you cant use the controllers at all.
I bought an Xbox One over the PS4 the other day because it came with a bundle (priced the same as normal) to include 7 games (including CoD AW, MCC, Sunset Overdrive, AC black flag & unity, Forza, and some shitty dancing game). I'm absolutely loving playing MCC and CoD, I haven't even touched the rest yet. But this deal was more than enough to make me choose Xbox over PS4 so good job to MS on that. I'm in Aus and we don't have black friday, it was just a Christmas sale or something.

Unlike the others where you cant use the controllers at all.
For those of us that are used to one controller for each system, it was a shock to have to buy 3 different controllers just to use most of the system's features. Then they don't give you a choice in which controller you use, they limit you to specific ones. If you like the pro controller/gamecube controller/etc., it can only be used on certain games. It'd be awesome if you could use just one controller for every game. It's really a clusterfuck at the moment.
as a pc owner there just isn't any point to buying a console, at least especially when I already am pretty happy with my wii u
I'd normally agree. A futureproof'd PC would last much longer, but I chose to get a console instead of spending much more on a decent upgrade - and to be honest, most of the best games I enjoy on PC are not AAA anyway.
Okay, now let's take out the multiplats! Oh...
Yeah, I've heard horrible things about the Halo collection how it doesn't even work properly etc, so that leaves Sunset, WOHOO go Xbox One!

The main reason I liked consoles throughout my life was to play couch games with my friends when I was younger. It seems that this has died out though, there are barely any good co-op games on the new consoles (if any, the only two on my xbone are Rayman/Halo MCC - and Halo MCC matchmaking is bad). I do have an Xbox One - however I received it for $250 new with any game + $50 Xbox card, so it was pretty worth it for me (hardware itself probably cost that much). Still not many good games though, would rather stick to my PC. Pretty sad how unsuccessful the Wii U has been. But you can pick it up for a good price, and it's definitely worth it. If you don't have one I'd almost suggest getting it over xbone/ps4 (depending on the type of games you like)
I feel like Wii U sales would have benefitted from actually marking down prices. I went black friday shopping with friend of mine and went to Walmart, Best Buy, and Gamestop and not a single one had a Wii U with any discounts at all whatsoever. 300$ across the board. Hell, my friend said if they even discounted it 50$ off he would've bought it.
