The 'Rotterdam' teenager that caused a terrorism-scare by locking himself in the Thalys-toilet on Rotterdam Central Station in September has been arrested again.
The 16-year-old Mouaz committed a violent shoplifting in Groningen, Oude Pekela.
His first arrest was the result of a failed attempt to travel on the Thalys without paying.
Mouaz jumped on the Thalys at the last minute in an attempt to travel to Paris. Since an armed terrorist in France two weeks earlier had also locked himself in the lavatory of a Thalys and then attempted to commit a terrorist-attack, the police responded with great intensity. However, after several hours of negotiation it proved that Mouaz wasn't a terrorist but a simple non-paying traveller. The teenager, who has asylum applications in several countries, was released after three days of questioning and investigation and placed in an refugeecenter in Oude Pekela.
In early October though, Mouaz came in contact with police again as he tried to steal candy and deodorant from the local Jumbo supermarket. When a cashier caught him and told him to stop, he spit on her. A second staff member received a head butt and a third Jumbo employee was bitten to the point of bleeding. Only when several members of the public jumped on him, he could be restrained. Mouaz was yet another night in the police cell. After interrogation, he was put on the street, with a summons to the juvenile court judge in his pocket. His violent outburst was reported on in "Hart van Nederland" a actuality-program in the Netherlands, but no one knew that the accused was the Thalys teenager.
Because the young Tunisian in Oude Pekela had become unmanagable, he was transferred to a refugeecenter in Drachten. Meanwhile, the boy already left Friesland again. His lawyer, the Dutchman Anand Jhingoer discovered Friday that his client is in a closed youth institution in Harreveld. Why he's being held again, is not clear. The foundation Nidos, who takes care of minors, would only confirm that Mouaz is under her guardianship. "For privacy reasons, we can say nothing about this matter '' explains a spokesperson.
Mouaz filed a complaint against the Rotterdam police after the Thalys incident. He also wanted compensation for the days he was in custody. Jhingoer expects his client to speak shortly.
