I personally think helping Africa with it's medical and food problems makes the problems worse. The reason they are starving in the first place is because we are helping to keep them alive longer and they haven't changed breeding habits at all. So the population continues to grows immensely and the death rate also slowed allot. They lose the ability more and more to help themselves, do to dwindling food supplies. I'd be all for feeding them and taking care of them if they erected some sort of population control system as China does.
Of course a more harsh way to do so would be to stop helping altogether and let the problem solve itself natural selection and all that.

You also can't discount the warlords and bandits who seize said supplies and use them as tools to increase their own power. If people want to send food that's all fine and dandy, but when I get the urge to donate to charity, it'll go to the organizations that build schools, wells, and other such things that have lasting benefits.

You have a point, the way you put it forward is terrible but I agree we should give them the tools and knowledge of how to help themselves. It's not always going to be possible to irrigate a section of land to grow cops, it's just not possible in some parts of Africa. Then you have the crime lords, they are the ones taking all the supplies and ensuring the villagers don't come to any power to ensure they keep their power, they are loads of factors stopping Africa from becoming a newly developed continent and we have to tackle those issues one by one before we can expect them to turn it around.

I'm kind of mixed on this one, at some point countries need to develop on their own so they can be self sufficient at least. Like the ol' "Star Trek Prime Directive" thing. With that said they're humans and its a asshole thing to do so but they certainly don't help them selves out.

Nope, half the time the corrupt governments of the the 3rd world countries make sure that the starving people of their nation don't see any of the money. Not only that but the birth rate of 3rd world countries is much higher than that of places like the US or the UK.
So why help them, when we cant even fix the problem of people living on the streets and starving in our own countries?

This is more on the lines of keeping in office I think. A good portion of the general public won't approve of it and next thing you know a candidate running for president says he will help them and then his ratings sky rocket so the other one has to comply with it as well even though they could both care less. The world in general thinks short term despite what foreigners will tell you.
Nope, it does not help in the long term.
Africa needs to be left well alone to work out the solution to it's own problems. That is how a country develops. It overcomes problems and evolves continually. The problem with all the aid is that a lot of the people think they can just rely on it rather than learn to do things themselves.
Sure, if Africa was left alone, people would die. But that is the price of the development of a country.
Some aid could continue but it must be cut down and the entire African debt needs to be forgotten and written off or paid for by the countries which gave it in the first place.
Instead of dropping made food, give them animals to breed and feed from.
