‘We could be killed’: Kidnapped Italian women in Syria appear in video pleading for help
TWO women identifying themselves as Italian aid workers kidnapped in Syria have appeared in a video urging their government to seek their release.
The video, filmed in mid-December, appeared online Wednesday night and purportedly shows Vanessa Marzullo and Greta Ramelli, who were abducted by gunmen in northern Aleppo province in August.
The women, both in their twenties, are shown wearing black dresses and headscarves, seated before a blank wall.
One woman holds a piece of paper with the date December 17, though the video appeared to have been posted online on December 31.
The other, apparently reading from a script held off camera, urges the Italian government to bring them home before Christmas.
Poor girls, sigh.
Al Nusra won't kill them they just want money.
I don't think Al Nusra has killed any of their hostages actually, they just exchange them.

Considering what they've done to regular civilians, they've likely kidnapped a few of them and executed them.

But yeah, kidnapping is a common revenue source for these groups, so it's generally not in their best interest to murder them. Wouldn't put it past them, though, especially considering how foreign aid workers are viewed amongst jihadists.
These people were fully aware of the risks of going to the area, there should not be any negotiations imo.

by this logic we shouldn't administer medical aid to wounded soldiers or car accident victims. "They knew the risks" is a bullshit excuse.

Dude, they're aid workers, not mercenaries.

What will you tell your children if they get bullied?
"lol thats life and you should be aware of it deal with it?"
European governments paying ransom to these groups is a big reason why people keep getting kidnapped in the first place. Stop paying ransom. And not to sound totally heartless, but yes they should have known the risks of going to a region where this type of activity isn't just common it is business as usual. Especially considering their own families tried to dissuade them from going for this very reason.
This is why I think it should be mandatory for aid workers to have military escort if giving aid in conflict zones like these.

Isn't it easy trivializing kidnap and death when you're sitting at home?
There is significant chance that aid workers in those regions will get kidnapped, this has happened several times in the past.
The aid workers that do go there subject themselves to that risk, knowing that such things could happen. That's why western aid workers shouldn't go there, otherwise this will keep happening over and over.
Of course it's horrible when they get kidnapped, but forcing government to enter negotiations with IS just empowers them.

I'm honestly perplexed by this post
PatrickT is right, we should stop sending aid and start sending bombs! Muahahaha!
