MECHWARRIOR LIVING LEGENDS, the critically acclaimed mech and combined arms simulator for Crysis Wars, has released their final update, 0.7.0. As of today, no more development will continue due to legal threats by the current MechWarrior IP rights holders, the MechWarrior Online team (or their publisher), a game which is two years younger than MWLL. The development team for MWLL, Wandering Samurai, has been disbanded. MWLL won the 2009 ModDB Mod of the Year (and multiplayer mod of the year), 2010 and 2011 ModDB Honorable Mention, and were in the top 5 2007 and 2008 Most Anticipated Mod(s).
We here at Wandering Samurai Studios would like to present to you our Final Public Release: Mechwarrior: Living Legends 0.7.0 First, I must present you with some heavy news. This is a very hard letter for me to write as doubles as a thank you and farewell. Over the years, we’ve strived to create the greatest, most innovative Battletech/Mechwarrior game ever conceived. We feel our efforts re-inspired faith in the Mechwarrior IP and paved the way to show that hard work and perseverance can bring anything to life given enough blood, sweat, and tears. Created by fans, for fans, we present to you a culmination of 6 years of work and whatever else we could slap together in time to release this update to you; our community. You’ve stayed with us over the years providing critiques, discussions, and arguments that have bettered this game and made it into one of the best Mechwarrior Communities I’ve ever seen. As developers, this is a hard patch to free into the wild. It’s a compilation of everything we’ve made functional up to this point with more than likely a few bugs thrown in for good measure. We are unable to include or finish various features and assets that were in development, and many of the things we’d planned will never come to fruition. When we started this project we had great ambitions, and in some respects may have been a bit much, but as our enthusiasm grew so did the scope and possibilities. Given enough time, anything is possible, but in this day and age, time is a luxury. You may not have as much as you may think so do what you can while you can to make a lasting impact. In terms of overall scope, I believe we’ve met and exceeded our initial expectations set forth when creating our original design document. Many things have changed, many things have been excluded or included, but in the grand scheme, it’s exactly what we envisioned; a Combined Arms Battletech Experience. It has been amazing seeing it come to life before our eyes and at the tips of our fingers. Over the years we’ve had multiple consecutive industry awards and were noted in various international print and digital publications. We don’t close our doors feeling any regrets, we close our doors knowing we’ve provided one of the most unique and in-depth BattleTech/MechWarrior experiences ever created, that which matches and surpasses many AAA titles to this date. We will move on to greater things as individuals, always remembering and presenting Mechwarrior: Living Legends as our shining beacon of accomplishment. A testament to what can be accomplished by the devoted players who see fit to take game development into their own hands, with their own vision, on their own time. To create a unique experience that will be remembered by players and industry leaders alike for years to come. The Final Version: Now to the fun part, amongst many other things you will find the following in MWLL 0.7.0: New Features: - Free Reticle - New Tank Hud - New Mech Hud - The ejection key has to be tapped twice now to trigger the ejection - 4 new mech camos - Camo for tanks and hovercrafts is now partly supported New Content: - Added Chimera Mech - Added Ares Tank - Added Masakari Mech - Added Solitare Mech - New Map: TC_Altay - New Map: TC_Taiga Bug Fixes: - Fixed crash when shooting at destructable trees with pulse lasers - Fixed crash in arm animation code - Fixed reticle showing red on friendly mech legs - Fixed not getting rewards for narced tareget getting damage - Fixed granades not working before opening map Balance Changes: - Complete Rebalance - Tons of new variants
[t]http://i.imgur.com/z0oVj.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/wbzLE.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/lprJY.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/91F4N.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/ALGeG.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/EUJ9G.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/VgqTt.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/HKoEk.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/Ur3h8.jpg[/t] MechWarrior Online/IGP couldn't compete with a game that has <100 players, so they shut MWLL down. IT DIDN'T HAVE TO END THIS WAY [SUB][SUB]Note that I personally don't know exactly who ordered MWLL shut down - it could have been either the developer (Piranha), the publisher(Infinity Games Publishing), or both of them pressuring Microsoft. Wandering Samurai had written and legal permission given by Microsoft to make MWLL.[/SUB][/SUB] There is however, a bit of good news - MechWarrior Living Legends should be compatible with the free Crysis Wars demo. Some servers will allow demo players, some will not allow them to join. http://mechlivinglegends.net/
The current IP holders had better come out with a product that's better in every way. Fuck 'em.
The current IP holders had better come out with a product that's better in every way. Fuck 'em.
MechWarrior Online is a mediocre game at best. Terrible performance, incompetent balance, everything is brown, it's pay2win, with a netcode straight from 1995, wrapped up with a terrible community. [editline]16th January 2013[/editline] Oh and it only supports half as many players in a match at the same time and has a fraction of the assets MWLL has - and it's only mechs. Tanks, aircraft, and battlearmor are not present.
Oh my goodness, this is really terrible. I remember all the hype when this thing was announced so long ago. This mod was one of the most incredible mods I have ever had the pleasure of playing. This is completely terrible.
To stop community based content which promotes your brand only to release a lesser product, on a lesser engine is a fucking rip-off.. This is horseshit!
This is the problem with creating a mod based on an established IP. This is why "company blessings" don't mean shit either when it comes to fan made products. Shit sucks asshole and I feel bad for the LL team.
This is pretty sad. But to be honest, there was always a possibility of this happening. It was only a matter of time I guess.
Uninstalling MWO from my HDD as we speak. Suck my Double WORKING Heatsinks you inbred Canadians.

MWO likely wouldn't even exist if MWLL hadn't been released to such acclaim.
Had MechWarrior Online not come out, MWLL would still be releasing content. MWO likely wouldn't even exist if MWLL hadn't been released to such acclaim.
That's debatable. MechWarrior is already a niche community, so assuming that a mod (mod users are niche already) for an already niche franchise gave the idea that MWO could work out for the masses is assuming a lot.
Wow that is shit
Ban copyrights Ban companies
;__;7
they should take whatever they have left of MWLL and reskin it into some other sort of combined arms mech game. they'll just need to replace the models with original designs, change some of the weapons and rename everything all the coding work's been done already and they've got a working game, so now they'd only have to reskin it and the copyright shit is just an excuse, this is obviously a case of serious dick envy; MWLL was better than MWO in almost every way
I don't think it was anyone attacking anybody over this shutdown. I just think it was a legal obligation of whoever holds the rights to the game now that there is an actual product that is making money for the MechWarrior name. Doesn't make it suck less but I think that's the simple truth.
still a convenient way to get some competition out of the way, i bet Piranha are happy with themselves
Pretty sure they think it sucks about as much as anyone else who enjoyed the mod does. I don't think they're going to be throwing a damn party over it at their offices today with cake and punch.
Yeah how dare people who own an IP shut down something that they haven't made grrr boo hiss etc.
Yeah how dare people who own an IP shut down something that they haven't made grrr boo hiss etc.
MWLL predates MWO by two years. MWLL has been in development since early 2007 and was released in 2009, two years before MWO went closed beta.
It's something to be said when a Fan-made mod is better than something your entire paid dev team can come up with, why not just hire the mod team?

I liked MWLL but it's community was dead since it was impossible to win if you joined half way through a match since you would just get stomped by someone in a atlas. It's a terrible thing to see die out but it doesn't stop you from playing it just from any new content from being released.
I liked MWLL but it's community was dead since it was impossible to win if you joined half way through a match since you would just get stomped by someone in a atlas\.
See. THIS PATCH JUST FIXED ALL OF THAT.
Unfortunately that means jack shit since someone else owns the copy right.
The copyright even changed hands after this game almost released.
This still won't stop the folks from keeping modding the already existing mod lol.
It's something to be said when a Fan-made mod is better than something your entire paid dev team can come up with, why not just hire the mod team?
Some people were complaining on the MWO forums about how awful the game was, to which the dev responded, "Let's see you make a better game." "We did until you shut us down."
you Canadians.
That's a compliment not an insult.
I think the little bit of optimism I had for PGI just turned into contempt. Also saber I suggest you put a link to the site in the OP.
