• Tilt Shift Photography!

Tilt shift photography is something I've really REALLY been digging recently. Better yet, I found it was easy to duplicate tilt shift photography effects in Photoshop in a matter of seconds, without requiring the expensive tilt shift lenses and it can be done with any old camera or even a camera phone. Tilt shift photography takes images from real life, and with simple editing make them look as if they are scale-model miniatures which in some cases causes bafflement and awe. Check these out: All are real life pictures but taken using Tilt-shift cameras or with the effect applied as post-processing with photoshop. How awesome are they? None of the above were made by me, but I have done a few of my own below. The ones I have done below were all taken on my iPhone with the tilt shift effect applied in Photoshop CS4: (Click to enlarge) How to do them? http://www.visualphotoguide.com/tilt-shift-photoshop-tutorial-how-to-make-fake-miniature-scenes/ 8 Steps, I can do them in like under a minute each now.
there's an app for that :science: interesting stuff, though 'tilt-shift' usually makes me think of the SLR lens method where you tilt the lens to change the focal plane, creating the same effect. (canon 24mm, not mine)
Cool app, thanks for that.
Here's a couple I made in photoshop.
Here's one I made: Original: http://paranoidfreaksstock.deviantart.com/art/Construction-Work-3-130895740
Obligatory: http://vimeo.com/3156959 That said, I've never really seen the point of doing this with filters; it just doesn't have quite the glow; it's just faked DOF, and therefore things don't get the right blur to them if they're in the foreground but overlapping something else. It works okay in Mr. Eggs case, as he has no Poles or other things breaking the depth, but with most stuff it's a waste of time to try to filter it to tilt/shift style. edit: in case it isn't obvious, I didn't make Bathtub IV.
I made some more:
You should use a camera that's not awful
yeah, I hate the iPhone camera. piece of shit takes the most horrific 1600x1200 pictures I've ever seen. [img_thumb]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4064/4277895506_b873a82efd_o.jpg[/img_thumb] (thumb) there's no need for the size if it can't do anything to save the quality.
Yeah I was thinking of getting some kind of nice Canon like one of my friends has, he's got some beastly lenses too but for now the iPhone has to do for me. It's better than other mobile phone cameras by far though, and despite only being 3MP, kicks out a tight image and takes barely any time at all to do it.
TBH it's pretty bad even when compared to other phone cameras
Yeah I was thinking of getting some kind of nice Canon like one of my friends has
might I point you in this direction → http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=888650 :buddy:
ooh this looks fun, here is my first attempt.... I seem to have trouble getting the gradient just right. and yes I drove to the top of a parking garage to take a photo just for this!
It looks like small toys :V
Wow this is awesome!
These are really cool. I'll need to try it sometime, but right now I seem to have lost my camera. Also, I swear I've seen that construction site picture before, somewhere.

I used a Nikon D60 but from what I have been reading it works better with crappier cameras
I've been making lots of these. I have the same iPhone app as was posting before. It's pretty fun to see the results.
someone please make me a 1900x1200 wallpaper of DonMichito's picture.
heres a bigger one, not exactly 1900x1200 though. http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/9499/1sttiltshift.jpg
Reminds me of this; http://vimeo.com/3156959 I love the effect it creates.

And fog is not present at miniature models. [editline]08:59AM[/editline]
C&C, please. If you want i cant post them in original size (4288x2848)
Bad angle and bad blur. It's not about "blur top and bottom parts of the screen". When you make a photo of a real mini-models, only the objects in the center is in focus, and the objects that is closer or further is blurred. In the second picture car wheels and seats are blurred. But door is sharp - this is wrong because they are same distance away from the camera. The first picture is somewhat fine, but you use the wrong blur technique. I will look out some old tutorials that I learned from and explain it here. Ok, it's not the one I learned from, but it's pretty similar: http://www.visualphotoguide.com/tilt-shift-photoshop-tutorial-how-to-make-fake-miniature-scenes/ It explains how to make proper blur and proper colors.
C&C, please. If you want i cant post them in original size (4288x2848)
The angle needs to be from top so it looks like you're looking at a miniature. Right now your 2 lower ones look like you're on the ground level and it just doesn't work.
I was looking at a Canon 35mm Tilt-Shift lens the other day, and a brilliant idea came to mind: Combine the awesome effects of tilt-shifting, with my EOS 7D's awesome Full HD Video recording! That could result in some very cool results. Like this: View YouTUBE video
That was VERY cool Jeggis your link broke http://youtube.com/watch?v=RvOppCMNS84
