POLICE are trying to defuse a bomb strapped to a teenage girl at a multimillion dollar house at Burrawong Avenue in Mosman.

Assistant police commissioner Mark Murdoch tonight described the situation as a "very serious and sensitive matter", The Daily Telegraph reported. "We are still treating the suspicious package as live," he said. "I can't confirm whether it is strapped to the woman involved but she is still in the vicinity of the device." When asked whether the girl could move away from the bomb, Mr Murdoch said: "No, she can't get away from it." Mr Murdoch said police had to "hasten slowly" in a situation as delicate as this. The woman is cooperating with police and bomb squad officers to diffuse the device. The drama unfolded at 2.40pm this afternoon when an 18-year-old girl called police to the mansion in Burrawong Avenue, Mosman 'following discovery of a suspicious device'. It was not clear how the device came to be strapped to the girl but it is understood she did not place it there herself. A senior police police officer described the device as an unusual 'collar bomb' which has never been seen before in Australia. He said they believed it was an extortion attempt and that the initial details of the situation were being conveyed to police via the girl's father. The girl, who is part of one of Sydney's wealthiest families is understood to be 'absolutely petrified'. Police believe the ransom note is attached to her neck but bomb experts have been unable at this point to read its contents. The street is home to racing identity Gai Waterhouse, ex-Wallaby Phil Kearns and John Eales Do you know more about this story. Police Bomb Squad officers are currently examining the device, while other emergency services are in support at the scene with the teen's parents. A third police rescue vehicle has entered the crime scene, as well as a number of detectives. The girl is only in Year 12 and is believed to be studying her HSC this year. She celebrated her 18th birthday three weeks ago. Her parents are outside the home comforting each other. Police said they could not elaborate except to say a 'delicate operation' was in progress.
Read more: http://www.news.com.au/national/bomb-squad-authorities-cordon-off-mossman-street-amid-threat/story-e6frfkvr-1226107604460#ixzz1TxVBr5tj Sorry about the title.

The last time I remember something like this happening, in America, the bomb went off and killed the guy

Holy fuck. A collar bomb? Did the fucking jigsaw killer break into the house?
Reminds me of the fallout slave collar. Really sad, I hope they can defuse it safely.
The last time I remember something like this happening, in America, the bomb went off and killed the guy
That would be extremely sad :(
Do we know what family it is? Also, this doesn't happen in victorious victoria.
Well all we know is that she's fucking rich.
Wouldnt expect something like this to happen in Mosman, its a hell rich area. house prices are like 3 million dollars on average.
Wouldnt expect something like this to happen in Mosman, its a hell rich area. house prices are like 3 million dollars on average.
Precisely why it would happen there.
Precisely why it would happen there.
Uh, yes. ...Who would choose a poor as fuck rural area to do this in? Of course it's going to happen in a place like Mosman (or an inner-city area, but if that were the case, probably for different reasons).
I'm probably gonna get dumb'd for this, but I think that it's fairly reasonable to think that this is a hoax and she's doing it for attention.
I'm probably gonna get dumb'd for this, but I think that it's fairly reasonable to think that this is a hoax and she's doing it for attention.
That's just about the dumbest thing I have ever heard, are you seriously that dumb?
That's just about the dumbest thing I have ever heard, are you seriously that dumb?
Yes.
"Let's strap a potentially life threatening explosive device to my neck for attention!!1!1"
They don't even know if its a bomb. It's really not that dumb of a thought.
Yes.
It shows.
It shows.
If I'm wrong, I assure you I will feel very bad regardless of my assumptions. There may be tears. Edit Wait how did I become a gold member what the fuck.

She's been freeded. Still haven't said if its a bomb or not, or if it is, anything else about the device.

http://www.theage.com.au/nsw/bomb-device-attached-to-mosman-schoolgirl-was-a-very-very-elaborate-hoax-20110804-1icbe.html as some thought, it wasn't a bomb. it was a fake.
I'm probably gonna get dumb'd for this, but I think that it's fairly reasonable to think that this is a hoax and she's doing it for attention.
You guys should re-rate him.
You guys should re-rate him.
To be fair, while I was right about it being a hoax, I was wrong about it being her idea to get attention.
To be fair, while I was right about it being a hoax, I was wrong about it being her idea to get attention.
girls her age don't contemplate strapping explosive devices on their necks. Girls her age should be dealing with school and college, and venting their frustrations on Facebook chat, tumblr, and formspring.
