A panel of the world’s leading climate scientists strongly asserted Friday that “it is extremely likely that human influence has been the dominant cause” of global warming since 1950 and warned of more rapid ice melt and rising seas if governments do not aggressively act to reduce the pace of greenhouse gas emissions. At a meeting in Stockholm, where the panel released its latest assessment [the IPCC report, itself] of climate change, the scientists for the first time established a budget for the amount of carbon that can be released into the atmosphere. Even if that target is reached, carbon emissions will have a harmful impact on the environment well into the future.
“As the ocean warms, and glaciers and ice sheets reduce, global mean sea level will continue to rise but at a faster rate than we have experienced over the past 40 years,” said Qin Dahe, a Chinese scientist who co-chaired the working group that produced the first of the report’s three segments, a summary for government policymakers.

Scientists arrived at their conclusions by drawing on more than 9,000 publications. They considered more than 54,000 comments from about 1,050 people in 52 nations.

So, so much for "Global warming is a natural thing we can't do anything about" some people seem to believe.
Unfortunately this won't change the minds of anyone.
This is why we should funnel all the cow farts, industrial gases and exhaust fumes into big containers underground.
Too little too late, we're supposedly already past the point of no return.
Not surprised
we've known this for almost 30 years now but people insist on wasting time and money with research that restates the same thing over and over again

I think it's just a form of denial, in the form of: "We can't take action until we're ABSOLUTELY sure we're causing it!" Personally, I think that mentality is a little ridiculous. My view is that it's happening anyway, let's start adapting to a warmer climate right the hell now instead of waiting until the last second because we were too busy going back and forth on who's to blame.
"B-but it's the Earths cycle!"
Something i remember an old man say where i work last year.
"Global warming is just government hogwash"
then it started to snow in July. :v:
After arguing and debating to death with ignorant masses of carbon in futility, I just gave up being pro active on the issue.
I've now become apathetic on this issue, and I find that deeply scary.

personally i think we should reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses we produce, anything from reducing the amount of livestock we hold only for our absurd and unhealthy appetites for meat, to imposing the death penalty on people who fart
Or you know, DECREASE THE FUCKING POPULATION!
So I say, Get rid of the hospital, Give us the Colosseum!
let's ride this plane straight into the ground!

A lot of my environmentalist friends say shit like this a lot, it's kinda' frightening :v:
Anyone can be paid to lie.

and you can ignore anything if you're willing to assume everything's a conspiracy

gold standard
Well, now that's out of the way
CAN WE FIND A WAY TO STOP IT NOW? or at the very least slow it down.
Anyone can be paid to lie.
there is no one who really benefits from the claim or fact that anthropogenic climate change is real
"big oil", automobile manufacturers and energy companies would all rather you believed otherwise though
But don't you see
there's been climate change in the past
and volcanoes and cow farts exist
I BET YOU STUPID SCIENTISTS DIDN'T ACCOUNT FOR THOSE
the CO2 levels and warming both rising at unprecedented rates, starting at the exact same time people started pumping literal tons of CO2 into the atmosphere
IS JUST A COINCIDENCE
the scientists are obviously being paid off by big solar and wind companies!
companies such as
okay I can't think of any off the top of my head but I'm sure they exist and have their greedy little hands in the entire scientific community

Who do you think is more likely lying:
-the vast majority of climate scientists who are saying that pumping tons of co2 into the atmosphere might be fucking things up
or
-the small, vocal, suspiciously rich minority of scientists who are saying "no, go ahead, everything's fine, don't change anything! Keep buying oil, guys, it's fine." Scientists funded by conservative groups that hide their funding sources.
who needs to stop when we can just pay more tax
Kind of pisses me off that the Coalition here in Australia is avoiding tackling the issue of carbon emissions, I know they have that "green army" plan where they plant millions of trees and tidy up the environment, but it does not address the issue of carbon emissions. The carbon tax was a terrible idea, but it's a shame that the Coalition under Abbott won't even consider an emissions trading scheme (which is far more economical than a carbon tax).
Hopefully electronic vehicles start becoming more widely used soon.
They've been saying things like this with 100% credibility for years, but it doesn't change the fact that Americans are too fucking stupid and antiscience to do anything about it. It's so much easier to say God will take care of everything and those scientists are just lying to get more funding.

Wow, and I thought the most ignorant thing I read today would be legolover122 in the steam controller thread.
the best thing you can do for the environment is to kill yourself

That's barely a fraction of the problem/s
The batteries in those things are really nasty and need to be disposed of carefully. You also need to factor in how electricity is created for those cars. Coal burning? Using uranium (another finite resource) in Nuclear Plants?
Until supercapacitors are easy and cheap to make and dispose of, and until better clean energy solutions come around electric cars won't solve dick.
