and developer Visceral were ordered to take the series into a more action-focused direction in order to emulate BioWare's Mass Effect franchise and broaden its appeal.
Sigh.
While i'm disappointed, i'd much prefer they cancel the next game instead of make the series even worse. EA always ruins things.
DS3 wasn't great, but it was still a fairly enjoyable experience, it's a shame though.
So they got canned after they followed their advice? That doesn't seem fair.
Another one bites the dust
THIS GAME WAS TERRIBLE, LET'S FUCK UP THE NEXT ONE That is not sound logic, EA. People didn't like DS3 because it was too action-focused.
Doesn't surprise me. They kept butchering Dead Space in after every game. Dead Space 3 was just action on action on action and a tiiiiiny bit of horror.
It seems that EA wants every one of their franchises to become RPGs or Shooters
"It's not our fault the game sucks!"
I wonder why, EA? You: 1. Shoved microtransactions into a game that never needed it. 2. Lazily slapped co-op into a game that never needed it. 3. Converted an awesome horror survival game into an action-horror game and then just plain action game. 4. Origin. Once again, fuck you EA.
Pre-Release EA: "So let's retool a popular game franchise to broaden the amount of people we can sell it to, effectively ruining it's original appeal and cheapening any entertainment from this game" Post-Release EA: "Well that didn't work, guess it's time to scrap the whole thing rather than try to salvage the trainwreck we've made on both the series and our reputation and in turn assure stockholders/potential buyers that we know what the fuck we're doing" What the fuck are you doing, Electronic Arts.
Of course it didn't sell well, EA. You fucked it up. You put stupid microtransaction bullshit in a full priced released, it's borderline pay2win, it's not even pretending to be a horror game anymore...nobody's buying it because you fucksticks ruined it!
This is a good thing, Dead Space will be the one AAA series this gen that had an end and didn't become a completely milked zombie cash cow. Usually a game series can never rest in peace, its remains tormented for all eternity.
Nope, totally great idea to turn it into resident evil 5/6.2! The hardcore fans were totally wrong. Fucking told you to stop before ruining another franchise. To add insult to injury, you probably expected it to sell a bajilion copies like the greedy dipshits you are. Capcom apparently wasnt a big enough lesson for everyone.
So who's going to defend EA this time?
What a fucking twist.

Just because a game doesn't outsell it's predecessor doesn't mean you have to shitcan the franchise.

Anyone wishing EA went bankrupt instead of THQ? Imagine that, good series like Mass Effect, Battlefield, and Dead Space wouldn't have been ruined to the point of bullshit, and many good developers studios would still be alive...
They expected to sell five million copies, more than the total for both previous games combined.
This is what I mean by management. Far Cry 3 sold 4.5 million copies in about the same amount of time and Ubisoft considers it a higher-than-expected success. There has to be something wrong at EA, either how resources or allocated or on who is doing the math.
While i'm disappointed, i'd much prefer they cancel the next game instead of make the series even worse.
Doesn't surprise me. They kept butchering Dead Space in after every game. DS3 wasn't bad, but it sure was kind of a lackluster. It didn't live up to its predecessors. If they ever bring back the Dead Space universe, bring a new character.
EA is still in the process of promoting Dead Space 3 downloadable content, including an expansion called Awakened.
Alright since you people misunderstood me I'll elaborate. I'm not saying its a bad thing to promote DLC and add more content to the game. After all I will probably buy it just like I bought the rest of their stuff. What I'm saying is it wouldn't hurt to give back a little to the community that still has faith in them. It would help their reputation after all. I've been dissapointed by them many a time recently but I still have faith that they can redeem themselves.
Are they fucking retarded? Seriously. No, of course the game won't sell as well because you changed the original formula that sold well! It just makes me wonder what kind of dumbasses are actually in charge of decisions like that.
Makes me upset that they are still money grabbing whores after all.
Yes argh all that extra content and lengthy support it makes my blood boil!
Makes me upset that they are still money grabbing whores after all.
So promoting a potentially good DLC is EA being a money grabbing whore You guys only bash EA when it comes to DLC when several other companies also do the same thing
The Dead Space story (atleast 1 and 2) were still one of the most atmospheric ones I have ever played. And also one of the very few games that did QTEs and cutscenes right (DS3 not included). Bye Dead Space
Yes argh all that extra content and lengthy support it makes my blood boil!
I'm not saying that it's bad that they are making more DLC because I will probably end up buying it just like i bought the rest of their crap but it probably wouldn't hurt them to give back a little every now and again. It sure would help their reputation after all.
