Celtic fans pledge to match any UEFA fine for Palestine flag display and donate to Palestine charity
CELTIC fans have vowed that they will match any fine that UEFA hands the club for a display of Palestinian flags at a recent match in charitable donations.
The club were notified by UEFA of a possible rule breach in their 5-2 win against Israeli side Hapeol Be'er Sheva on Wednesday.
Thousands of fans unveiled the flag of Palestine in a pointed protest against what many perceive to be the illegal occupation of that region by Israel.
They already matched the fine in the first day lmao
Israel's shit is very unpopular in Scotland, we have a lot of Palestinian flags flying over town halls and town squares.
For the "double standard" thing: to be fair, the H. Beer-Sheva fans are showing a flag of their team's country, while the Celtic team is from Scotland, not Palestine.
More evidence that Scotland's politics is awful. Maybe they should rediscover some Adam Smith instead of protesting about events half way across the world.

They are looking for someone to hate, they don't actually care about politics

your source that all of these people hate israel for nonvalid reasons, is a single photo of a single guy mooning a ripped isreali flag, from reddit?
That tweet's a little silly. You can't compare fans waving flags for a foreign nation to fans from the other side waving their own country's flag, and claim that they're both as politically charged as each other.

Where were they before an Israeli team played in scotland? This is just international soccer hooliganism.

im not sure how this counters my point.
yeah, i understand that hooliganism is a thing in sports, but I don't think it applies here. this isnt a riot where fans burn down their own town because someone kicked a ball further than someone else, this is a protest against the fact that different countries are being treated differently.
I admit to being a bit ignorant of this particular situation, the source did not provide much context. If anyone strongly believes that I am wrong, then at least explain why

'Me and my mates at the Socialist Workers Party all really hate Israel and Je-- um, Zionists... Ergo, everyone here in good old Scotland *bagpipes play, screaming Scottish man saying something about William Wallace and the English*, which is so much more nice than England *boos* hates Zionists! Free Palestine! Free Scotland~'
Actually your post reads almost identically to the French guy who claimed everyone in France hates Israel except evil Jews and 'freemasons'

What are you trying to accomplish exactly?
Israel's shit is very unpopular in Scotland, we have a lot of Palestinian flags flying over town halls and town squares.
It's the trendy populist thing to do. Meanwhile rocket attacks started again yesterday.
What are you trying to accomplish exactly?
saying that people who dislike zionism are anti-semites

The Israeli flag is at an Ajax game in the Netherlands though. I would think the difference though is the history of the club. Palestine has nothing to do with the Rangers.
More evidence that Scotland's politics is awful. Maybe they should rediscover some Adam Smith instead of protesting about events half way across the world.
maybe you should discover some adam smith then because it sounds like you know nothing of him nor hume

It's nice that to oppose illegal settlements or to argue against the large numbers of civillian casualties in wars requires you to condone and support terrorist attacks and rockets being shot indiscriminately at civillians. Wouldn't it be weird if people looked for nuance rather than just assuming black and white positions?
Seriously, you can support the state of Palestine existing without supporting hamas.

Do you think that actually happens though? Of course not. A lot of the time it just turns into anti-semetic claims.
Let's see where the Celtic fans donate their money to though - recently certain charities have been exposed as embezzling funds for Hamas.

Do I now. Okay then
Do I now. Okay then
yeah because it's kinda funny how you can't understand why they would bother doing this when bringing up one of the fathers of moral sentimentalism

Antisemitism is a relatively widespread trait around those parts; you can find it even among some who claim to support Israel. On the other hand people give the jew shit on the offchance they are affiliated with Israel in any way.
I do believe the populace at large to be defavorable if at all concerned about israeli settlements, based on their faith, ethics, and sometimes their antisemitism.
I'm pretty sure Celtic interest in Palestine is mostly anti-Semitic rather than based on Adam Smith's ethics given their past behaviour towards an Israeli player. And I was talking about Smith in a contrast to the pathetic faux-socialism (ie. His far more well known work, Wealth of Nations rather than Theory of Moral Sentiments) of the SNP.
[editline]22nd August 2016[/editline]
Celtic politically is dominated by far-left who have long history of virulent anti-Semitism. Incidentally, just last week I saw a Celtic fan calling for their Israeli player to be gassed, but that's just one example of course.

an anecdotal example that doesn't connect the words of a few to the celtics nor scotland as a whole
what is this history of anti-semitism espoused by the club and what does the SNP's economic policies have to do with anything? going after individual bigoted football fans is low hanging fruit, given how some jump at the opportunity to be venomous about anything

A lot of it actually stems from drawing links between their situation and the situation in Palestine. At least that's often what it comes from in an Irish/Northern Irish context. British occupation of Ireland being connected with Israeli occupation of Palestine. And the far-left have a history of being anti-imperialist.
Painting Celtic and the far-left as being motivated by anti-semitism is a massive generalization. How opposition to the aforementioned issues is expressed can be anti-semetic.
Both Glasgow and Dundee have Palestinian twin cities, flying the flag isn't some conspiracy to spread anti-Isreali sentiment. Ironically, the SNP argued against the twinning of Glasgow and Bethlehem because they saw it as a political move rather than something of any potential cultural exchange value.
And do people honestly think Palestine is some poor victim? Theyre just as vile to eachother. Lamar's hate boner for Israel is just funny

Oh yeah what a hate boner look he posted an article. Do we really have to read this exact shitpost everytime lamar creates a thread?

Naive and outdated belief in god to balance the markets?
Sounds like regression.
Sounds like something you'd hear in Iran infact.
