While there are bigger pools (ie 50BTC and BTC Guild), it's the 3rd highest on those rankings, so it has a good chunk of the hashrate.

Real story is slightly masked - Slush regained control long enough to transfer the database and is working to restore mining operations at Amazon Ec2 instead of OVH. He says that mining operations will be working in several hours. The few bitcoins taken he's reimbursing from his own wallet.
