Unsuspecting Chargers fans in two sections of Qualcomm Stadium were showered with money during the San Francisco 49er preseason game. When Club level server Heather Allison tripped on a stair, about $1,000 flew out of her hands landing under seats, in laps and sailing over the railing into the lower Field section.
“All my customers began screaming over the railing to the people below: ‘That’s the servers’ money,’ ” recalls Allison, who has sold refreshments in Sections 36 and 37 for five years. Fans helped collect the stray bills and, amazingly, so did the crowd below. Within 10 minutes, a security officer brought a stack of cash back up to her. “It was all there,” says the mother of four and full-time student who, after paying the concession, still pocketed $170 tips. “Chargers fans are amazing,” she says. “We’re like a family.”
Good to hear things about humans being human. :3
So what's this about a crown?

I think he meant crowd
So what's this about a crown?
Crowd, sorry
Waitress trips and rains $1000 into crown, king doesn't return any of it.
That title is confusing as all hell.
Still, nice to see that not only everything was returned but also so bloody fast!
I would have returned the money too if I knew who it belonged to. If I didn't know, I'd pocket it.
that's actually really surprising. nice to hear a story like this
Stories like this help me believe there are still great and kind people in this world.
Heh, I would have expected that at least one asshole kept something behind.
But, but, I thought humans were self interested? That's what economics taught me.
Wait? What? This cannot be true, people are never nice like this.
She must have been really hot.

News seems to consist of either extraordinary incidents of ass-hattery or rare acts of kindness these days.
I was there.
Didn't know that happened though, cool.

You could equally well say that the fact that acts of cruelty make the news is a good indicator that we are caring and pleasant as a species.
[editline]15th September 2011[/editline]
And there are far more acts of cruelty reported in the news than acts of kindness.

Completely missed the point.

Our species is superior to every other species on Earth.

Or... you know - 90% of kind stories aren't reported on.

Indeed, in fact its even surprising that they reported something this positive.

Because San Diego is in a shithole right now and it's always good to hear how we don't all suck.
With that $1000 she payed the concession stand off and kept $170 in tips.
Therefore, we can conclude there were $830 in orders, with $170 in tips.
Therefore we can further conclude Charger fans give an average of 20% in tips. That's not bad, at least Charger fans aren't cheapskates.

I think every dinner I've ever been to has involved tips of at least 20%, and I've made it a general rule of thumb to tip that as the minimum.
Eating in Japan is awkward as hell for tourists, apparently you're not supposed to give tips there and they'll chase you when you're out of the restaurant to give you your money back :v:

They are self interested. They probably got a nice warm fuzzy feeling from giving the money back. If they didn't feel good about doing nice things people wouldn't ever be nice.

Especially at those already ridiculous prices. :v:

Kind of same in finland, it's weird to be out of country when you're supposed to tip. My dad panicked last time when he didn't know how much he should tip in sweden

Its not the same in India. They are awesome.
When went the waiters were fighting over who got to serve us, because you could get a delicious home cooked 3 course meal for about $5, we normally tipped more than the entire meal was worth. They were really friendly and would do absolutely anything for you because they know that in comparison to most people in India the average western tourist is completely loaded. It feels kind of good that you can make them so amazingly happy just by giving them a few $ worth extra, which is loads to them but not even pocket change for most teenagers here. Its sad at the same time that they get paid so little when they work a hundred times harder than most people here.
I normally tip 10-15%, depending on what change I have and how good the service actually was.
