ND Law Enforcement lays siege to Standing Rock Protesters

CANNON BALL, N.D. — North Dakota law enforcement will begin to block supplies from reaching protesters at a camp near the construction site of an oil pipeline project in an effort to force demonstrators to vacate the area, officials said on Tuesday.
Activists have spent months protesting plans to route the $3.8 billion Dakota Access Pipeline beneath a lake near the Standing Rock Sioux reservation, saying the project poses a threat to water resources and sacred Native American sites.
Supplies, including food and building materials, will be blocked from entering the main camp following Governor Jack Dalrymple’s signing of an “emergency evacuation” order on Monday, said Maxine Herr, a spokeswoman from the Morton County Sheriff’s Department.
“They have deliveries, retailers that are delivering to them — we will turn around any of those services,” she said.
The order was effective immediately. As of Tuesday morning, however, no vehicles carrying supplies had been turned back, said Cecily Fong, a spokeswoman for the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services.
The building materials intended for the site are a top priority because the camp is not zoned for permanent structures, Fong said. Propane tanks also will be blocked because they have been used in attacks against law enforcement, she said.
A spokeswoman from the Standing Rock Sioux tribe was not immediately available for comment.
The 1,172-mile pipeline project, owned by Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners LP, is mostly complete except for a segment planned to run under Lake Oahe, a reservoir formed by a dam on the Missouri River.
Welcome to Mini-Stalingrad, protesters. Considering you have only experienced a taste of North Dakota's winters, what with the two feet of snow and 30mph winds, we welcome you to our lovely state.
Down here in SD its too damn windy and cold to walk to my car without freezing my hairy white ass off, i cant imagine how much worse it is 250 miles north and with no supplies. Those indians have got some serious balls, ill tell you that.

Har har har teepees and buffalo burgers for everyone
And tons of yellow perch and walleye.
In all seriousness, with this wind and snow amount, they really do need to leave that camp and get to real shelter.

I get that you don't like these protesters, but they literally have the right to do this. Inconvenience to you or anyone else. acting like you're holier than thou because you're properly prepared for winter only serves to make you look bad.

No man, come up to ND. Most of us are chill here, just ignore the few radical rednecks
On topic, it's been snowing constantly here since Sunday night and will continue to do so till Wednesday is over. I feel terrible for these protesters outside, this is a very harsh, but common warning from ND's weather. Hopefully nothing bad happens.

Yea they have the right to protest, (not going to mention all the shit theyve done besides protest), but theyre still idiots for staying out there.
Doesnt matter what your cause is or how just you think it is, living outside in the coldest place on earth is just stupid and reckless.

No one should be willing to sacrifice themselves for anything?
That's kind of depressing.

Never said that. I'm just saying its fucking stupid to sit outside and literally freeze to death over a matter thats already been decided.
Fighting and dying for your right to exist or to be free is one thing, sitting in a tent and freezing to death over a completely safe pipeline is another thing.

If they feel that passionate about their cause and aren't hurting anyone then what is it to you?
"C'mon Rosa Parks, just move to the back of the bus, you're going to go to jail over nothing."
Do we even really know if they aren't prepared for the cold or not?

It's not really stupid at all
South Koreans just succeeded in getting their president out of office through protest.

"arent hurting anyone"
"multiple reports of them tossing molotov cocktails, rocks, propane tanks, etc. at cops".

There are reports of the one incident, which resulted in the arrest of the assailants (and more).
that's obviously not what every protester is doing. every group has its radicals.

I'd like to say that she isn't out of office.

How you can even compare this to Rosa Parks is fucking beyond me.
If they stay out at that camp, people will die and people will be maimed by the cold. There are no 2 ways about it. Rosa Parks wasnt risking her fingers and toes to the elements when she refused to move out of her seat.

Do they have permanent structures with built in heat systems? No they dont, so they are not prepared. The Core of Engineers wont let them build structures there since its federal land.

I love how you can report on something as ghoulish as the cops trying to end a protest by starving out the protesters, and you have only barely contained glee at the thought of all these filthy agitators being hungry, frozen, and miserable.

This isnt a protest against a politician who is out of her mind and confiding government secrets to civilians. This is a protest against a pipeline, a corporation theyre protesting who wont give way.

You can survive in the cold with temporary structures and heat systems
You can survive in the cold with temporary structures and heat systems
Not in North Dakota dood. Its already dropped 12+ inches of snow over the past 2 days and come January, its going to be deep in the megatives with 40mph winds and horrible wind chills. You can not survive here without a permanent structure and good heat systems.

about 3 weeks ago, park wasn't going to give way either.
but the protests continued, and progress was made.

"Safe Pipeline..."

And the protesters here have been here since August and tge company that owns the pipeline is willing to dig without permits and just pay the fine. Its not going to stop. Billions of dollars have already been dumped into this.
I'll take a tox clause on that.

People are fucking pissed since they are tired of Corporations fucking over this planet. I think they have a good damn reason to do so. If they die, they die. If they want to die and if they know they will freeze to death in a mid western winter, good for them.
