Online video streaming service Netflix says it will expand into Australia and New Zealand next March. The successful US entertainment service charges a fee to watch television series and movies ad-free and also produces original television content, including House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black. Netflix launched in 2007 and currently has more than 53 million members in what will soon become more than 50 countries.
Let's hope it's not like, $50 a month because "Fuck you Australia" and that our internet connections will be able to stream in anything other than crappy definition. Holy shit, you guys don't have it???
Holy shit, you guys don't have it???
Nope, though they've somewhat hinted at coming here for a few years now. I just hope this time it's for real.

I hope it kills cable TV that'd be funny.
I knew Australia was a shithole, but holy crap, this seals the deal of terrible.
lol no, it's just media is overpriced as fuck and our current services are shit at best. I'm just hoping Netflix gives them an incentive to deliver a proper service.
Can't wait for the $999 per month package of, "Sorry this film is unavailable in your country." I hope we don't get bummed too hard on this though, seriously because I would love to see the end of cable TV. Fuck those cunts.
50 bux a month to watch the wide selection of 12 different movies we decided to license in your country!
Here's hoping Murdoch doesn't fucking take this away spouting unfair competition bullshit.
Thank god i have the NBN so this is actually viable. I hope they give us a good selection too.
50 bux a month to watch the wide selection of 12 different movies we decided to license in your country!
But because of recent contract expirations, we're slashing the number of available films in half. Enjoy your movie!
They've got competition in aussie piracy, our piracy per capita is the highest in the world (mainly because we lack actual good distribution services like netflix) So if they overprice it or only give us like 2 movies then they're shooting themselves in the feet. I look forward to it though, I'm sick of my movie options being: 1) watch at cinemas when it comes out 2) buy at kmart 10 years later 3) get arrested by swat for piracy
If the selection is shit people could just use hola unblocker to get decent selections. I use it at the moment, only thing I had to change was adding a 0 in front of my post code for payment.
I hope it kills cable TV that'd be funny.
No. Foxtel slashed their prices by half only very recently, their basic package starts at $25/month and having one of the other packages, such as sports or drama, increases that to $45/month which is still $5 less than how much the basic pack costed beforehand. And no, they haven't cut out any channels.
The death of Foxtel is finally here
As long as there is no Verizon.
I dont trust Telstra though. :tinfoil: They seem like the most likely company to fuck you up.
lol no, it's just media is overpriced as fuck and our current services are shit at best. I'm just hoping Netflix gives them an incentive to deliver a proper service.
Or since your government is slowly turning into a parody of the republican party, the existing services could lobby to enact some unfair law and either outright bar or make it very difficult for Netflix to work there, corporations don't compete if they can change the rules
I'm interested to see how well it does over here really, considering the fact that our Internet quite frankly sucks for a vast majority of people.
But because of recent contract expirations, we're slashing the number of available films in half. Enjoy your movie!
Not exactly netflixs fault, every studio today keeps going "hmm, I bet we could make more money by spinning off our own service" it makes the market so damn fragmented, also amazon is burning warehouses full of cash to outbid everyone on the contracts while their streaming service is sort of shit and nobody uses it
I wish we had Netflix too.
Come to EU pls.
Holy shit, you guys don't have it???
It's because of the Telstra-owned monopoly known as Foxtel.
Australia, Australia, Australia, amen!

I've always wanted to emigrate to Australia, but the bullshit you guys got with prices for video games, no Netflix, and Abbott is turning me off majorily.
I've always wanted to emigrate to Australia, but the bullshit you guys got with prices for video games, no Netflix, and Abbott is turning me off majorily.
Honestly, you can get off greemangaming, or ozgameshop for US prices or cheaper for games. It's plenty easy to get netflix, one addon for chrome, add a 0 in front of your postcode and you can get it. Abbot though, don't see him going away soon. Also we're pretty tight on letting people into the country. It is extremely hard to get permanent residency here unless you have a partner or skills that we require.
I've always wanted to emigrate to Australia, but the bullshit you guys got with prices for video games, no Netflix, and Abbott is turning me off majorily.
Prices on video games isn't a huge issue as people make it out to be, honestly there's so many other methods to get video games without needing to go to places like EB, JB or Dick Smith. PC games are especially easy to get for cheap prices through cd key warehouses and not. As for Abbott, you can only hope that people in the states and territories of Australia vote out the coalition and put Labor back into power. May not seem like much but trust me, a Lib government trying to negotiate with Premiers who aren't affiliated with them will make it intensely harder to enforce state wide laws and policies. You can only hope that in 2017, the Australian public boots Abbott out OR someone else takes over the leadership of the libs. I've always rooted for Malcolm Turnbull being the leader of the libs. While people would say he's pretty shit, I reckon he's only shit because rn he's got to deal with backwards ass views. He's actually not that bad in my books and I reckon he'd make an excellent leader, he supports same-sex marriage but would want civil unions first state-wide and then evolve on it (but honestly fuck that and jump right too it). Abbott is a prick, he needs to be ousted honestly Don't feel like those two issues shouldn't let you hold back from emigrating to this beautiful country. Feel free to contact me or the other Australians on this forum for more information if you feel you want to!

You can watch any country's version of Netflix, but you need a Netflix account obviously. It's great. And the connections are fast enough that they stream and in HD just as fast as you normally do
