[sp]please for the love of god dont make this an apple v google circlegerk pissing contest thread[/sp]
That's a tall order.

Not that surprising
Sadly AFAIK Apple doesn't have any sort of demoing apps system (apart from trial versions of apps of course) and this is the closest thing to adding that feature. They even supported using Installous to "try before you buy" rather than pirate. [sp]Apple should adopt Google's refund within 15 minute rule, or something similar[/sp]
rip. It's a shame but not that surprising. Was a good service for downloading - er - region restricted, completely legal apps.
Good night sweet prince. I already have like a billion replacements.
I don't see the issue here - Piracy is wrong in most circumstances.

I haven't used an iPhone in a long time, but isn't Installous the program that you usually use to download free apps? [editline]31st December 2012[/editline] Fuck me. Installous was made by the Hackulous guys. Shit
good
It was shut off because apparently it was hardly used so not much of a loss.
Well ssshhhiiitttt!! :suicide:
I played a bunch of Apps today, both on my Mac and iPhone (that I got from the App Store) and my conclusion is that mobile/simple/modern games are becoming really really shitty compared to actual games. I mean even the most cool-sounding one I could find (Galaxy on Fire 2, also on Steam) was simply terrible and I could tell it was made for a causal audience. There were like 3 options in the settings as well which were all tick boxes. Angry Birds just doesn't cut it for me as anything more than a bus-journey time-waster. I hasten to add that I barely ever considered this a game at all. With the way technology is going (Microsoft with all this tablet bullshit and their bollocks Windows 8) I fear our favourite developers are going to have to start making dumbed down game for all the people out there who enjoy that kind of shitty 'game'. As nerdy as it sounds, I want more mod-ability, more hardcore gaming, more water-cooled multiscreen rigs, more red-bull fuelled LANs, more graphics options, more horrendously 'drop you in at the deep end' moments and less fucking Angry Birds/ microtransactions/ pay-to-win games.

Unfortunately, that's not what makes money. Well, it makes money, just not the kind you get from appealing to the lowest common denominator.

The reason those games are popular, is because they sell to that demographic. They sell to the gamers who game when they have time, not the gamers who make an entire lifestyle built around it. Hardcore gamers will stick to PCs and consoles, there's no reason to play a game on a tiny screen with no peripherals, when you're either only playing it for 10 minutes at a time, or you're in a place where you have access to a powerful beast of a gaming machine, complete with a mouse and keyboard that you can actually use, rather than an inaccurate touchscreen. Most of us have no real need for a mobile gaming device, we have desktops and laptops for that; we really can't get the kind of precision and control we want from a phone.

They feel like real games as opposed to the usual found on the marketplace. I also don't really care about this shutting down, apps for mobile are usually fairly cheap to buy.

Also Angry Birds is awesome don't lie to your self.
Alternatives like AppCake and vShare are still up and running. Plus im sure people will remake something similar anyway. At the moment the new weapon of choice for piracy on iOS is Zeusmos

And allot of games work right on touchscreen if they never relied on tactile feedback, like Phoenix Wright or Final Fantasy (so many Japanese games tend to be just a bunch of menus anyways)

Now's our chance to cash in and make millions!

Its weird, but its not impossible. Just drive around for a bit aimlessly, you get the hang of it.
