I officially just don't fucking understand it. I would very much like to consider myself a good person; I am an avid believer in non-spiritual, circumstantial karma and I try my best to help the world at large and the people within it. No homeless' can goes unpaid, no friend in need goes unhelped, no charity goes unpaid if I can do something about it. I've developed a recent hobby of sneaking out of my house (usually on a plethora of psychedelics) a la Christopher McCandless and handing out Taco Bell and McDonald's to the homeless sleeping under park benches and highway overpasses. I donated a decent sum of cash made by a certain business venture involving drugs recently to WHO (the World Health Organization). I do not view it as any special act of virtuosity or kindness; it simply seems to be what should be a normal part of everybody's life. You have more privileges and luxuries than they do, so it is your basic human sense of fairness and helping of your fellow brother that compels you to do such a thing.
It is not a well-hidden fact in modern society that hard work does not often equate directly to wealth. In fact, it never does. I cannot think of a better excise in futility than finding a multi-millionaire who worked harder to make his fortune of millions than the uneducated immigrant who works tirelessly for hours on end for his petty sum of cash. The general inequity of luxury in this world is astounding, however it is not where the heart of my fury exists. The root of my abhorrence of poverty and starvation is the wanton waste of resources in the world, the unnecessary spending on useless bullshit that nobody could possibly need. The fact that both over-eating and fucking starvation are both massive world problems. A detestably large overabundance of resources and luxurious items exist in the modern first world countries, where the average household has more than a single TV, where 5% of the population holds 90% of the nations wealth, and where NOBODY DOES FUCKING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
It is beyond me how somebody in good conscience could live with not only more than they need, but with more than they want, and to not think for a single goddamn second that they are living in a world of material excess. It's all these things, these fucking things things things! These material possessions, these meaningless arbitrary plastic, metal, polyester pieces of bullshit that people's lives revolve around. Hours upon hours of wasted time is piled onto a giant carcass of nothingness; time spent in cubicles, writing memos, finishing spreadsheets, managing meetings. Gasoline is poured upon the wasted time and a match is lit. The precious hours destroyed that could have gone to a meaningful cause are already up in flames, so no point in grabbing them back now or you'll hurt yourself.
Sitting in an expensive nursing home, suddenly regretful that you spent eight years in college and another thirty in business just you you could get that nice home on the coast and the expensive red convertible you always wanted? Regretful that you found out that REAL happiness can only come with the benefit of others, that it's relevance with items purchased with cash is strikingly little? Regretful that maybe, just maybe, helping those in need could have been a better life choice than helping those who already have suits lined with cash and homes lined with expensive works of art? Well too fucking bad, it's gone now. They're ashes, coals, not even remotely salvageable; you die but your coals live on. Still shining bright in the warm hearth of the fireplace, waiting for poor young sap to pile his kindling on top and set another fire ablaze. A vicious cycle where the rich keep their warmth and the poor die trying to strike a wet match.
I. Don't. Fucking. Understand. Did I miss the seminar where we as people in general were decided to be greedy, self-righteous assholes or is it just human nature? Am I a romantic lunatic waiting for empathy to be kicked into the roots of the populace's heart, or is there a legitimate reason to wait for the day when we value the happiness of others over ourselves?
It's human nature.
Being mean to one another is easier than being kind.
Because society rewards egoistical pricks.
I've questioned this a lot too. People are just dicks because of how their brain works. If behavioral traits like aggression/friendliness are genetic in dogs then maybe they are in humans, too.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! NO. Fuck you, you self-hating douchebag, this is the way the world works and you can't do anything about it. I like my 52 inch plasma and my SUV very much thank you.

Oh and by a large majority people just don't know or give a fuck about any of the real problems in the world, they're just too busy trying to make themselves look better.
If I gave you $100 would you give it to someone on the street?
You assume too much of yourself.
Humanity's end to itself is it's humanity, as long as we have emotions and free will, we will continue on a self destructive path into oblivion, taking the entire planet with it.
where do babies come from

When a male and female dog really love each other, they connect together to make baby dogs.

Don't be so mellow dramatic.
You act as though humans are special in it's advancement.
We can bypass our destruction with the use of technological advancements.

what about uzumaki naruto babies?

So do I, but that does not make me an compete asshole like you. I'm a smart person, I invest in my human capital and I work very hard at my schooling and job. There is no reason why I am not entitled to the sweat of my brow. This is not to say that I treat people like shit, or don't care about charity. I have donated + volunteered my time to the less fortunate with NO STRINGS attached (unlike religious charity institutions).
Just because I'm living the good life, does not mean I don't care about the betterment of mankind, and the life of men/women who are less fortunate and have been given less opportunities than I.
Incentives are a very powerful force in human nature. Children really aren't much different from average adults when it comes to motivation. People need to get things in return for their ventures.
You communist.
People are assholes.
You communist.
The only problem with communism is you.
Why can't we be friends?

And you assume that the principal source of happiness is money and consequently things associated with money. If given $100, I would gladly donate it to charitable purposes, no strings attached. Feel free to regard my good will with skepticism, but just because you don't feel the need to place others' happiness over your own doesn't mean you have to assume that everybody else is inherently just as selfish.
what about uzumaki naruto babies?
I think so? As long as they're of the same genus or something. I don't know much about biology.

The poor are only poor because they were dumb, irresponsible or lazy, or their ancestors were. Prove me wrong. Besides, "investing in human capital"? What a load of bullshit, they're just gonna go down to the local market and buy some bling and dagga/khat/crack and live the high life for a few days before sinking back into the squalor of the lumpenproletariat.
greed and envy i say. people are jealous of each other and do bad things as a result
greed and envy i say. people are jealous of each other and do bad things as a result
Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind.

I find your personal attack rather petty, and your only motive for giving the $100 is to make a point.
If I gave you $1,000 would you give it all to one person on the streets?

I would like to dispute this claim.
I'd reference to the circle of poverty.

If they had some manner of self control and discipline they wouldn't need to raise 300 snot faced little street urchins now would they?
So I should go spend my next paycheck on taco bell for crack addicted homeless people. Because they're totally helpless and innocent :downs:

Malnourishment leads to underdevelopment of the brain. Making it harder to learn, harder to find work, harder to feed yourself.
I see no real current way of stopping the homeless from reproducing.
HOWEVER, Those that are addicted to drugs/booze should be sent to aid to try and rehabilitate them and turn them into productive members of society.

Just give me the taco bell.
Oh god I love taco bell.

Sure, blame the future of the unborn child on his mother.
There are many reasons why poor people are poor. America is not the land of opportunity that everyone used to believe in. Whether it be lack of opportunity to education or just fowl "luck" (getting a job right now isn't easy), society does not provide each and every citizen with "equal opportunity". My grandmother is a nurse and physical therapist and she has had a lot of experience with the homeless. She has meet countless individuals with PHD's, who have either lost their job due to layoffs or even developed a metal illness (such as schizophrenia) during the middle of their career.
Trying to prove you wrong would be a waste of time. Go take a basic class in sociology and then we can debate the finer points of our societal structure. Teaching you would be like trying to teach an 8th grade Pre-Algebra student Calculus. I don't like using the word "ignorant", so I will define you as a person who has not had the building blocks, or fundamental structure as it were, to fully understand this problem at an intellectual level.
And I highly doubt Mc Donalds is the current exchange medium for drug rings now a days. Your hostile stereotyping may work for more liquid forms of currency, but handing out food and giving the poor better opportunities for job training and education isn't going to end up shot in their arm.
I think he's a troll anyway.
I seriously doubt that anyone can wave around that colossally stupid "Well I'm successful, anyone who isn't is an idiot" attitude in life.

Aw is this what daddy told you?, or did you develop this incredible sheltered way of thinking on your own?.
